DOMESTIC ABUSE

Editors, Daily Planet:

Many human beings struck by domestic violence, in fact almost certainly the majority of adult victims are not “wives.” Non-married women can of course be victims of domestic violence. And, as the Department of Justice has acknowledged, males constitute a significant percentage of domestic violence victims. Exact figures vary, as they inevitably will, but somewhere between 36 and 60 percent of all adult victims of domestic violence carry a Y chromosome. If there ever was an excuse for willfully ignoring male victims, it disappeared with the 1997 publication of Philip Cook’s seminal book Abused Men: The Hidden Side of Domestic Violence. Dr. Martin S. Fiebert, psychology professor at California State University, Long Beach, has tabulated no fewer than 155 studies documenting the substantial levels of male victimization in domestic violence.

Sure, males are on average stronger than females, but there are many exceptions, and the elements of surprise and weapons can easily flip the advantage to a female against even the brawniest male. As best-selling author Dr. Warren Farrell has repeatedly, tirelessly pointed out, out of well over 50 studies using randomly chosen subjects and studying both male and female violence, not a single one has concluded that males commit a substantial majority of domestic violence. Most studies find that, when we compare male and female, violence is an equal opportunity atrocity. At the National Coalition of Free Men, the world’s largest and oldest membership organization devoted to public education regarding gender discrimination against males, we deplore all violence equally. We only seek to set the record, and Mr. Allen-Taylor, straight.

Doubtless researchers, of any worth, will have come across the work of professor John Archer of the University of Central Lancashire, here in England. For more than a couple of decades Archer has made a study of studies, polls and surveys from around the globe. This into methodology, inbuilt bias and how conclusions were derived.

From the above, he ascertains that males are more often the victim, albeit marginally.

Yes, I cited Archer is several appellate briefs. That is the most comprehensive meta-analysis out there. It's summary result is:

"Women were slightly more likely (d = -.05) than men to use one or more act of physical aggression and to use such acts more frequently. Men were more likely (d = .15) to inflict injury, and overall, 62% of those injured by a partner were women."

(John Archer, Sex Differences in Aggression Between Heterosexual Partners: A Meta-Analytic Review, Psychological Bulletin (Sept. 2000) v. 126, n. 5, p. 651, summary.)

AND, it also refutes the feminist "self defense" myth, stating:

"It has often been claimed that the reason CTS studies have found as many women as men to be physically aggressive is because women are defending themselves against attack. A number of studies have addressed this issue and found that when asked, more women than men report initiating the attack. (Bland & Orn. 1986; DeMaris, 1992; Gryl & Bird. 1989. cited in Straus. 1997) or that the proportions are equivalent in the two sexes (Straus, 1997). Two large-scale studies found that a substantial proportion of both women and men report using physical aggression when the partner did not (Brush, 1990; Straus & Gelles, 1988). This evidence does not support the view that the CTS is only measuring women’s self-defense."

================================================== =====

Given the fact that men have been victimized by domestic violence in far greater numbers than reported, and a significant of those men have then been victimized again by the anti-male, gender feminist run, domestic violence industry, shouldn't our government in America now be funding a restitution program for male victims of those atrocities, instead of funding a hate campaign (VAWA) that prejudicially targets all men?

In the main portion of the San Diego Domestic Violence Council's, Men's Leadership Forum on Monday (Valentines Day) pro feminist males, one after another, engaged in excoriating vilification of all males as violent "criminals waiting to happen." The stereotyping and use of half truths and lies was, to say the least, "incredible," and if any other group, females, blacks, latinos, had been treated in such a prejudicial way, a hate crime lawsuit would probably now be pending so why can that government funded group get away with spreading that kind of pure hatred and prejudice against males? Does anyone believe that hiring a man, or a minority to spread hatred against a group of males somehow legitimizes the criminal spreading of that misandry, or is that only okay in the twisted minds of those in the San Diego Domestic Violence Council who hired the speakers?

If anyone had directed even one sentence of those hour long harangues against men, against women, sexual harassment lawsuits would now be pending by the women in that room so why is that government funded group allowed to spread that hatred and prejudice against men?

We need a law granting restitution for every male living in America, because every man living in America is a victim, either directly or indirectly of the mainstream domestic violence movement's virulent anti-male hatred that is funded by VAWA. The San Diego Domestic Violence Council's Men's Leadership Forum on Monday is Exhibit "A."

Sincerely, Ray
