No one will take men's activism seriously if we turn into feminazis ourselves--picking apart every little thing, even if they barely relate to gender issues. For crying out loud, does the fact that this woman didn't end her life for her husband mean she's a misandrist?

I think the point is that the BBC is trying to make it sound romantic when there is nothing romantic about a man committing suicide over a woman or vice versa and perhaps it's unlikely that they would have put such a spin on the story had the sexes been reversed. The point is that this is actually a very sad event but instead it's being touted as a romntic thing and it wouldn't be so as such had the sexes been reversed is the idea. Or so I think.

not to mention men's suicidal tendencies compared to women "attempting" a suicide for attention. In this story the man kills himself and the woman still gets the attention.

I would agree that this is more of a human tragedy than anything anti-male. Rest in peace, Ettore.

I see truth in all these postings. The original posting is right in that this is not anything blatantly anti-male. The following postings are right in that if the genders were reversed, it would show more concern for the woman and not romanticize death.
But then again, it works both ways: the stereotype is that when a man does something drastic and sweeping he is romantic, whereas a woman is seen as desperate. For example, proposing marriage. So the stereotype makes both parties suffer in different situations.

Thanks for all the posts re this article. Yes, this is all quite thought-provoking all right in terms of analysis of 2x-standards and in particular the way the press reports things.
