Pitcairn sex abuse trials
posted by Adam on 09:07 AM September 30th, 2004
News AngryMan writes "Not quite sure what to make of this one. Half the male population of Pitcairn Island (7 men!) are facing a string of sex abuse charges, but the island's women have rallied to their defence, claiming that the young 'victims' were coerced into testifying. Story here."

They ought to join the 20th century by rending this type of behavior illegal.

How much do you want to bet that many of the women who are out there defending the men have had sex with underage girls or boys themselves?

Some of these charges go back to 1964!for god's sake!!!

This story reminds me of accused WW 2 war criminals who are deported decades after the war because of supposed atrocities they may have committed back in the late 1930's and early 1940's.
Also notice that Westernized women, a busybody female police officer who initially reported the alledged crimes and female members of the New Zealand judiciary are prominant figures in this soap opera farce!

With so much concern and cost$ over this it would probably be wise of the inhabitants (all 47 of them)on this small island in the middle of the sea to make "nookie" the new gold standard to prop up their lame economic structure. It would probably generate more income than selling postage stamps which is currently the island's main cash cow.

The alleged rape took place in December 1999 and was reported to Pitcairn's governor, the British high commissioner in Wellington, by the island's resident policewoman, an officer on secondment from Kent.

Mayor Steve Christian, a descendant of Fletcher Christian who led the Bounty mutineers, appeared in a specially built courtroom to face six charges of rape and four charges of indecent assault on four women from 1964 to 1975.
