Yes, the classically hated gay male. It seems to have always been this way in the U.S., male homosexuals taking the brunt of the persecution. Perhaps because womens' sexuality, as my anthro teacher once said, is more "plastic" women are generally less homophobic than men. Homophobia, of course, is strongest within one's own gender, so since women don't seem to mind lesbians, no one does.
Americans believe that a lesbian can still be a woman, but a gay man something other than a man, maybe he's not even human. This is a purely cultural mindset. In some tribal cultures, the homosexuals in the tribe were holy men.

Alot of us Indians DID see Homosexuals as haveing "strong medicine".
They were considered to be in a sense BOTH male AND female. This was seen as an achievment of being in balance in the medicine.
Many homosexual medicine people were often sought out by married men and women who wanted an imartial party to help them overcome their marriage problems. What better person to talk to than a person who could see BOTH sides of ANY gender issue from both gender's perspective.
Things HAVE changed, though. Fewer and fewer Indians "tolerate" homosexuality, these days.
Personaly, I say it's between YOU and your MAKER, as to who or what you are. It's no one else's buisness.
While I may not be real fond of homosexual sexual practises, I will STILL love them as my fellow human beings, just like all my other fellow human beings. (even feminists)

I think lesbians have an easier time because our society gives women much more freedom. Today's lesbian may be tomorrow's straight who "experimented". For men, it is different. To paraphrase one comedian: "Men are either 100% manly straight or they're 100% gay, taking on all comers."
For men, we have fewer freedoms in general. We get criticised for not marrying quickly enough and severely frowned upon just for being gay. We have a strict role in society (serving women) and are criticized or worse for deviating from that role.

Like I've said before, That's why I don't associate with women too often. I try to avoid realationships with them, particulairly romantic ones, because the moment I do I know I have taken on the role of subserviant.
I don't need that. I have enough aggravation.
Like the one Anon poster said once: "I'm no longer their whipping-boy. I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more." :-)

Don't worry. You just haven't found the right woman yet. Have you thought about moving to an Asian country?
But seriously, women are a varied people, like men are. There are bound to be some, even in America, who believe in true equality, and still others who believe in true equality while recognizing the differences between men and women.
Trends are such that more women are marrying young, staying home with the children, and taking on their husbands' names. I'm talking realy recent trends here, not the past quarter century. That shows that some women in postfeminist America believe that they can be the equal partner of their husband without having to prove it to themselves by neglecting their children.

You make some good points.
I know there are good women out there. Probably LOTS of them. But like I said once before; "you can't tell the good from the bad without a program". Alot of guys I know married whom they thought was the woman of their dreams, but soon after the marriage these "nice ladies" turned into harpies. Almost every guy I know who married is now divorced and paying alimony. A couple of these guys have joint custody but their ex-wives won't let them see the kids at all. I understand that this is a common occurance, in America. I just don't want to end up like those other guys. So, like I said, I generaly steer clear of most women.
And, yes, I have considered going to an Asian country and finding some one there. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds or the means to go to one. I think I'd like to try Japan, if I ever get the chance to go to an Asian country. I know I hear alot of guys say they found the "right one" in Japan.
But, lastly, I don't really feel I NEED a woman in my life. I'm actually pretty content to be alone.
I don't know if that's normal or if I'm just weird...!

"And I'm going to be blunt and plain: If one ever looks at me like that, I'm going to kill him and tell God he died," Swaggart said to laughter and applause from the congregation.
So which bit got the applause? The idea that you can Lie to God, the idea that you can Lie to God and God is stupid enough to believe you, the idea that you can break a commandmant and just lie your way out of it, the idea that God really doesn't mind if you break the rules, so long as you can maintain the appearance of piety, or the idea that the rules of your religion only apply to people you like?
Or we can just be Christian ourselves and assume that the congregation laughed out of embarrassment out of what an ass Swaggart just made of himself in public.
