Domestic Violence

News Ray writes "This article Would You Help a Domestic Violence Shelter that Helps Men "...provides us with a means to honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October) by contributing to a neglected cause -- helping the male victims of violence." Thanks to Wendy McElroy for posting this information about the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men (DAHM) at her Ifeminist web site, and thanks to Mensactivism for helping the many male victims of domestic violence who have so often come to this site for help."

If women want to be equal to men, then they better ACCEPT EVERY ASPECT OF THAT PRIVILIGE!! What is ifeminism?
http://www.ifeminists.net/introduction/
"Ifeminists believe that freedom and diversity benefit women, whether or not the choices that particular women make are politically correct. They respect all sexual choices, from motherhood to porn.

As the cost of freedom, ifeminists accept personal responsibility for their own lives. They do not look to government for privileges any more than they would accept government abuse. Ifeminists want legal equality, and they offer the same respect to men."

Wendy has done alot of great things for us, particularly in her foxnews.com columns. She chooses to call herself a "feminist" because she believes the feminist movement misuse and abused the term, and to her it just means believing in gender equality. I myself am among those who don't care much what she or others call themselves as long as their substantive work is fair and supportive of men's issues. Warren Farrell, in The Myth of Male Power, said that he is a masculist or a feminist to the extent that either term means believing in gender equality, and to the extent either term goes beyond that, he does not identify with it. But I can understand the other side's view. For example, the president of NCFM, Tom Williamson, who appreciates Wendy, feels very strongly that people like Wendy should not call themselves feminists. I can respect that view even though I am not of that camp. But what is sad is when we start fiercely dividing up between ourselves and doggedly attacking each other over this semantic issue. I've seen too many meltdowns on this site over it, and we should try to avoid that. We have bigger battles, and we need each other's support.

Wendy is what Wendy is... a person who has her own world view. IMNSHO 98% of the time she is a STRONG benefit to men and the men's movement, and a stand up individual. I can agree to disagree on the other 2%.

Even were she the worst sort of troll I'd not personally stoop to some of the language I've seen here... but the price of freedom must be paid. The alternative is to add true moderators and enforce a code of conduct... perhaps it's time has come but I've always liked the open dialog that this site engenders.
