'Virtual girlfriend' demands gifts
posted by Adam on 01:42 PM August 27th, 2004
Humor CJ writes "She needs to be coddled with sweet talk and pampered with gifts, but you'll never see her in the flesh. A Hong Kong company has developed a "virtual girlfriend" for new cell phones with video capability. If she's neglected, "she'll be unhappy and she won't talk to you," The company also hopes to develop a virtual boyfriend by early next year. I wonder what he will expect? Respect perhaps? Chime in with your opinions... here"

I'm not sure this is such a bad thing. :D

Funny how the whole concept of the girlfriend has been reduced to trying to emotionally manipulate men into free labor. Not by the company mind you, they're only guilty of pointing it out, but by generations of women whose heros include Madonna, Zsa Zsa, Paris Hilton, and Nicole Ritchie.

I am of the opinion that anything vitural, rubberized, printed or whatever that can aid in having "safe sex" is good and should be encouraged.

And by "safe sex" I am not only referring to protecting oneself against AIDS and other STD's.

Also guarding against false accusations of rape (see the latest on William Kennedy Smith!), getting caught in the child support web etc, are just as important to guard against as STD's.

But she'll require a lot of attention, involving virtual flowers and diamonds, company spokeswoman Ada Fong said. Though gifts are nothing but data, suitors will have to pay cold, hard cash.

Fong said prices have yet to be determined.

If she's neglected, "she'll be unhappy and she won't talk to you," Fong added.

Calling the game "suitable for all ages," Fong said the game won't allow sexual interaction.

So, guys are supposed to pay for a computer program to simulate being rejecting, demanding, and bitchy, and then pay more for nothing to keep cyber-cupcake happy? If guys really do sign up for this, I'm quitting the men's movement and going to live in a tent somewhere 50 miles from the closest road.

So what's the difference between this and having a REAL girlfriend, now a days...?
Either way you get the short end of the proverbial stick.
Better to be alone for the right reasons than with a woman for the wrong ones...,
Oh by the way, Does this "Virtual girlfriend" beat on you then have you arrested for hitting HER? Does she file false rape allegations? just wondering how "realistic" they made her.

You might notice an increase in your phone bill when she starts ringing round the other cyber girlfreinds.

Somehow, the premise of this thing is pretty close to what a real relationship is like: spend money on gifts, apply liberal amounts of attention with a trowel, and still not get any sex.

I suppose one more step towards realism will be her accusing you of being controlling and emotionally insecure when she starts hanging around other (male) computer simulations.
