"Girlie Men" comment by Gov. Schwarzenegger
posted by Adam on 09:59 AM July 19th, 2004
News Ray writes "Did Governor Schwarzenegger hurt all men's issues in California, when he made a "sterotypically macho/anti-macho" comment about Democrats that denigrated gays? "Girlie Men" Does Gov. S. have a "macho/chivalrous image/prejudice" that he expects all men to try to live up to? Should men be divided by Gov. S. into categories such as gay, macho, etc. for means of poiliticizing issues? Has Gov. S. crossed that line of political correctness, by uttering this clearly sexist remark about gays as Sheila Kuhel (avid men's rights opponent) says? Has Gov. S. committed sexual harassment and does he now need to be sent to sensitivity training, or are the negative reactions against Gov. S. just one more example of the rampant Heterophobia that grips the State of California?"

amperro writes "Okay, maybe this doesn't directly concern the men's movement, but California State Sen. Sheila Kuehl, a major Paternity Fraud Supporter, got a little hissy when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger used the term "Girlie Men" to describe state legislators in this story I guess we should all care what Sen. Kuehl thinks."

I think Arnold was trying to make a point using a phrase which has been out there for some time used to spoof him. SNL has been showing Arnold look alikes saying 'girly men' for years. Arnold is a very bright guy, and in trying to enamore himself to the everyday guy, he used an everyday guy phrase (guy meaning people, not just men).
I am suprised anyone here buys into the "oh my gawd..he spoke bad about a ...minority!"
This wasn't about gays, or women, it was about a stupid tv show and using that tv show to gain popularity among his voters. 'Girly men' here is a way of saying spineless, wishy washy politician.
I think that if all the voters care about are semantics, then perhaps that explains why the US is in such a pickle.

I personally love these antics. I am so sick of this PC crap, I love it when a politician gets in and shakes things up.

~And while I am on my soap box....~
I am getting so sick of gays feeling they deserve all this consideration. It is a lifestyle choice. If you choose to be openly gay, it is a choice. When I choose to go around with dog hair all over me, dirty jeans, and smelling like hot dogs, then I assume to get a certain reaction. I don't cry "I am a dog trainer, you can't discriminate against me!" when the waiter at a fine restaurant gives me a funny look (and to my other dirty, hairy, smelly friends!) I just smile and ask to be seated. It is only a problem if he refuses.

Everyone is giving gays a seat- however it is our God given right to not like it, or to give them a look. That is our choice.
~off the soap box~

Anyways, I think that this article is important to this site, but not for the reason Ray feels. I think that women have made being proud to be a man a sin for too long. Arnold, humorously, and perhaps accidentally, made a small stand to take back that right. Men should have a standard to which they hold themselves, and that standard should not be a woman. It is up to the individual to decide whether to follow that, and how much. I think that he makes a point that a man should have an opinion and stand by it. All this say one thing and do another is BS and we all know it.

Anyways, this is what happens when I am busy all summer and finally get back. Missed you guys,

Hey, Jen (aka The Biscuit Queen)...

You and David were missed at the Men's Rights Congress. One of the great pleasures of that whole experience for me, and there were many, was meeting and getting to know, at least a little, some of the wonderful women who are part of the men's movement -- CrescentLuna (a very cool lady) and several other women, who apparently don't post here.

JEN!!!
Where have ya been????!!!!?????
I thought you'd gone missing on us, like LadyRivka, Dan Lynch or Letslockandload.
Glad to see you back!!

Any way about this Schwarzenegger thing, folks.
Why is it that males can be bashed, de-humanized and denigrated 24-7, but let someone make even a slightly "off handed" remark about women OR gays and it's the begining of Armegeddon?!?
Just goes to show where we are, I guess.

On a personal note I also find it interesting that you can not "parody" homosexuals in the least bit. If you so much as talk with a lisp or do the feminine "swish wrist" thing, or do anything "stereotypeing" gays you are branded "HOMOPHOBIC".
BUT! Go to any "Redskins" or "Indians" game and you see my people "American-Indians" de-based, dehumanized, and stereotyped with things like people going "Woo woo woo", chanting steroetypical "Indian war songs" and our religious and ceremonial objects (like the Kannanunawu (sacerd pipe)) being mis-used and PLAYED WITH like toys. This is WRONG!
We Indians protest it constantly! (includeing yours truely) Yet where is the compassion for US?!? Where is this UNDERSTANDING and TOLORENCE we hear about all the time? We hear it being demanded for Blacks, Women and gays, but that's appearantly where the line is drawn.
What if you had a baseball or football team called the "OHIO HOMOS"? and the masscot pranced around the feild with limp-wrists, wearing pink and listening to SHOW-TUNES!? 'think THAT would be acceptable?
What if you had a team called the "NEW YORK NIGGERS"? and the masscott (a white guy in "black face") danced around the feild saying "Oogah Boogah!", with a bone jammed through his nose? Would that be Okay?
What if a team called it's self the "WASHINGTON WOMEN" and at half-time a group of women came out on the feild carrying mops and saying things like "Don't ask me, I'm a girl" and demontrated the inability to DRIVE a car? Would that be okay?

I think anyone with any brains knows that if ANY of those three teams actually existed the out cry from black, gay and feminist groups would be so loud as to drown out all other sounds, the stadiums would likely be burned down over night, and of course the media would give it TONS of coverage as to how sexist, homophobic and bigotted it all is.
But notice not one word mentioned when Indians are treated this way.
AND not one word mentioned when MEN are treated this way.
And men are de-humanized, bashed and humiliated on TV in movies and popular culture EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR!!
But not one word.
So you see, my friends, Political correctness, tolerrance, and sensitivity are CATEGORICAL!
There fore true EQUALITY does not, NO, CAN not exist in this country untill the rules apply EQUALY to all people. With political correctness as part of the mixture, this will NEVER happen!

So, any way, I've ranted long enough.
But just for the record can you all see why I am BOTH a men's rights activist AND an Indian activist?

That weekend was at the end of the 5 weeks so I was packing up and moving back home... at the same time Jen was packing up and driving to a Border Collie camp to teach inept dog owners for a week (it's a little known fact that 'dog training' is 10% training dogs and 90% training owners, and people call dogs dumb beasts ;) ). We were looking forward to the event and hopefully next year we can make it.

As far as Arnold is concerned I think it was an opportunity for the Governator to stand up to the PC bull$hit that pervades California (and the rest of the country), and he made a lot of points IMO when he refused to 'apologize' (suck up to the whiny radical minority).

We were even a little worried, since we hadn't seen either of you post anywhere for a while. As for your son, it would be great if he came. The congress was far from all white boys. A number of women came as well as some black men. One of the seminars, in fact, was on black and white men (and communities) working together on our common cause. Also, the age range of participants was pretty broad, but I'd guess that your son would stretch that a bit more.

I just listened to former CA State Senator Art Torres (D) on Fox News while taking a break from all my hours of watching CNN (sarcasm), and it came out that one of the issues related to the hold up of the CA state budget is the right of people in schools to sue under sexual harassment laws. Gov. S. is trying to reduce the write of school employees to file suit for alleged sexual harassment. The SHI (sexual harassment industry) is certainly well known as an industry that sets up heterosexual males for frivolous charges of sexual harassment in the workplace

In light of the above Gov. S's comment is even more bold, since California schools are nothing more than sexist and hostile environments, where male heterosexuals have to walk on tip toe over egg shells to be certain that nothing they say or do can be used against them in a sexual harassment charge. Women's Studies Centers and college courses in California colleges are bastions of sexual bigotry and harassment against men.

As far as Sheila Kuhel's comments, her radical, misandric, heterophobic views are painfully well known to men's activists in California as well as most Californians. When she cries "sexist," she needs a big mirror to look into so she can see the biggest sexist bigot in the state.

Even though California is considered to be the left coast, it is illuminating to know that the area that Kuhel represents is one of the most left leaning places in that left leaning state.

Sheila Kuhel should clean up the sexual hostile work environments against men in her own district, instead of taking so quickly to the hypocritical, two faced posture she seems to project so naturally.

If it is a bathroom problem, they can use the faculty lounge. I would be very uncomfortable with a girl using the boys bathroom, even if she claims to be a boy at heart. Furthermore, Hanz and Franz, the charecters from which the expression was derived hardly fit under the category of blatently hetrosexual figures and oppressors, as I bet if you asked people if they thought they were supposed to be gay, or gayish, more than a few people would think it is possible. Either way it is unimportant. The fact this this woman is just trying to polarize people against him.

It is just another example of him digging into peoples cultural icons for support and to connect. Just as with his 'terminate them' in the vote on 'judgement day' (election day).
