Useful DV Stats in California
posted by Adam on 03:47 PM June 16th, 2004
Domestic Violence Marc writes "Aside from all the randomized surveys showing that men and women initiate DV at the same rates (like in Fiebert's bibliography here and Linda Kelly's law review journal in PDF format), sometimes it is also very useful to cite local and state police reports and other "archival" data in one's advocacy for male victims in civil rights lawsuits, lobbying or other advocacy. Below are some California stats from an online State of California source that can be very useful in this regard. Marc

The document I refer to above is titled "The Prevalence of Domestic Violence in California." It is a State document that, despite the extreme gender bias in its analytical language, still shows that, according to police data, men comprise about 1/4 of DV victims. The document is available at this site in PDF format. Here are some highlights:

1. In 2000, 9,340 women and 41,885 men were arrested for DV (p 40).

2. From 1988 to 2000, women went from 6 percent to 18.2 percent of DV arrestees, while men went from 94 percent to 81.8 percent (p 41).

3. In 2000, out of 147 homicides with DV as a precipitating event, 22 victims were husbands and 72 were wives; 8 were boyfriends and 32 were girlfriends; 1 was an ex husband and 0 were ex wives (p 45).

4. In San Diego County in 1996, law enforcement showed that 18 percent of DV victims were male and 82 percent were female, while 82 percent of suspects were male and 18 percent were female (p 48).

5. From July 1, 2001 to May 31, 2002, in the victim compensation program for DV victims, 2,936 primary claimants were male and 9,898 were female (p 53).

6. "One responding shelter, located in Los Angeles, reported a significant number of gay and lesbian domestic violence clients, with more male domestic violence victims than female." (p 14.)

I honestly have to say that I'm not surprised, and there's one other person who should not be surprised, but should hang his head in shame, Bill Lochyer, Attorney General of the State of CA.

(Click) Report On Arrests for Domestic Violence in California, 1998

The report is from the Office of the Attorney General of California. Attorney General Bill Lochyer knew fully about this trend and has done nothing about it, except doing his job in the same misandric, gender bigoted way he has always done his job. You need only look at the 3rd paragraph of this more recent effort by him to see that. (click) Spousal Abuser Prosecution Program. Men just don't count in this prejudiced hate monger's mind as evidenced by his use of gender biased language always referring to females as victims and males as batterers. It is not hard to understand how he and those under him enforce the State of California's laws with the same misandric prejudices.

In this report, Page 8, Table 2 it shows that in the years 88 to 98 there was a 392% increase in the number of women arrested for domestic violence and this during a time when Draconian measures where in place to arrest men.

I made the extra effort to crunch the math and adjusted for the increase in CA population in those years and it was still something like a 360% increase. I then looked at the numbers again and noticed that the rate of arrest of women increased each and every year over the previous year. I then proceed to extrapolate this out, and as of a couple of years ago anticipated about a 20% arrest rate.

A couple of years ago I said $1 in out of every $5 should go to male victims of d.v. Clearly, the domestic violence industry in the State of CA (as well as other places) is a huge disgrace, in as much as it has such a contributory role in the battering of innocent men.

I have a hate crime to report. Let me rephrase that I have a large number of hate crimes to report, that are systematically being carried out. Here's the real problem, no one is more involved in the carrying out of hatred against men or anyone in the State of California, than the "top cop," Attorney Bill Lochyer himself.

So much for a free society. A sign should be hung above all entrance ways into the great man hating State of California, and it should be addressed to all men with these words, The same ones that Dante wrote above the gates of Hell, "Abandon hope all ye (men) who enter here."

Sincerely, Ray
