Spot the double standards! (there's several)
posted by Adam on 10:43 AM June 5th, 2004
Inequality Anonymous User writes "article 1 A Parma woman who carried on a two-year sexual affair with a boy who was 13 when it began dodged prison Wednesday when a judge sentenced her to probation on felony sex charges. Dawn Bacon, a 34-year-old mother of three, pleaded guilty earlier to 20 counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. She will serve six months of electronically monitored home confinement and must continue psychotherapy... Another story in the same vein article 2 Jennifer Joel Wilder, 33, was charged with sexual battery on May 14. She is free on $10,000 bond. Authorities said Wilder was a science teacher at East Central High School. They said the teenager was not in any of her classes."

These cases of adult females having sex with underaged boys and getting off virtually scott free are so common now that hearing about one more almost leaves you numb. In the first article, if the woman seduced the boy the first time and was blackmailed into the other 19 liaisons, then that says something about the "innocence" of youth these days; but one cannot ignore that if the sexes were reversed, they would've dropped on the man like a ton of bricks. Just look at what happened to the man accused of "accosting" the two 11-year-old girls. Though the double standard is enraging, it is also common and you just kind of get used to it--like a daily beating.

indeed it is like a daily beating.

In that first case if that were a man who had physical custody of his three children, the first move of the judicial system would have been to remove the kids from the home and limit his contact in the future. However in the woman's case the judicial system seems to be bending over backwards to accomodate this sexual predator and ensure that her children remain with her.

In the second story it is said that the maxium penalty is 30 years, i'd be surprised if the woman is even confined to any type of government institution or facility for more than 30 days.

The problem is that society sees older men who have sex with kids as pedophiles and WOMEN who have sex with kids as a "lifestyle choice".

Case in point, I find it interesting that the media and like minded people just GUSH over DEMI MOORE and her MUCH younger "lover" ASHTON KUTCHER, But these same people (more or less) mightily CONDEM some one like WOODY ALLEN and his realation ship with the much younger SUN YI PREVIN.

...no, no double standards in this country...! (Sarcasam off)

No kidding.

If a man just SAYS he thinks a teenage girl is cute they`ll call him a weirdo, yet when a woman HAS SEX with a teenager, the "excuse machine" gets rolling.

And Im sure if the national media got ahold of this story they`d make it look like some kind of romance novel-esque "Scandalous Love Affair".

Yep.
The media goes out of it's way to make excuses for female pedophiles.
And yes, that is EXACTLY what they are, pedophiles.

>>> the "excuse machine" gets rolling.

The bigger problem is that this is *typical* of how society reacts to things that the genders do.

If a man does something that is considered "wrong", it is WRONG. end of story. If a woman does the same thing, all manner of excuses, reasons, justifications arise to support her (or at least minimize any repercussions).

Here is something that I have noticed most of my life. If a woman *wants* to do something, then it is her "god-given" right and right as a *human* to do something that she wants to do. It is stepping on Human Rights to prevent a woman from doing something that she *wants* to do. If a man wants to do something similiar, all manner of limitations and justications for those limits arise.

This is a "Mans" world??!

In the Woody Allen case, I would point out that there is a SIGNIFICANT difference: Woody was married to Sun Yi's adpoted mother (Mia Farrow), and therefore was in a position of trust, not unlike that of step-father.

Though I think Farrow's whole soap-opera of false accusations against Allen ought to be treated as a criminal matter and the b*tch ought to spend some time behind bars, there IS a difference between the Kutcher case and the Allen case.
