Cartoon Strip on MND Portrays Violence Against Men
posted by Adam on 01:32 PM June 4th, 2004
The Media Luek writes "If you go to the Men's News Daily site regularly you will notice the cartoon strip Day By Day written by someone called Chris Muir. This strip has recently given in to the concept that violence against men by females is okay and humorous. The current one, as of 4 June, has a male character called Zed getting slapped by a female character because he sent a picture of her breasts, I think it was, over the internet. I sent Mr. Muir this e-mail protesting his condoning of violence against men by females as okay and funny." See the Read More section for the e-mail.

Hello Mr Muir,

(FYI,his e-mail address is: daybyday@daybydaycartoon.com)

I have been reading your cartoon strip, Day By Day at the Men's News Daily site for a couple of weeks now. The most current one has a male character called Zed who gets slapped by a female character for e-mailing a picture of her bosom I presume over the internet. I also recall another male character in an earlier strip getting hit by an object thrown by a female character over some slight.

The media has developed a very bad habit of portraying violence against men by females as something that is okay, justified and even humorous. Even men getting hit or kicked in the testicles an act which could be defined as criminal sexual assault, has become a common sight in too many commercials and movies where the assault is suggested as being funny and even empowering for the abuser who is usually a female.

If you think I am being overly sensitive and just not appreciating the joke, well how about doing this as an experiment? Switch the scenario where the male characters slap or otherwise abuse the female characters over some trivial offense and see the reaction from the public. It would be an outrage!

So would you please do something about combating the social acceptance of domestic and other violence against men? It would be original and even more entertaining not to mention more intelligent.

Here is the e-mail I received from Mr. Muir about his cartoon strip.

Luek,

Are you reading my stories before I print them?

You are exactly right, and I am setting it up the other way 'round
later in this story. I also am damn tired of men portrayed as stupid,
deserving of abuse.

watch & see...

It did seem a little vague when I looked at it, but then I looked at it some more and said to myself, "Well I do see how Luek could take it that way."

Now after reading Mr. Muir's response I'm really wondering. Hmmmmm?

Congrats Luek, I second you on all of this, good work. YOu have great insight. Thank you Adam for posting this, it is appreciated, I got abused ny women in my life and it is no laughing matter.
Thank you. I really need help on all this and it seems that the men's movement is rejecting me.
I asked for help and nobody wants to help me.

The previously specified URL is slightly incorrect. There should not be any spaces in front of the .gif. This hyperlink to the cartoon should work.

Consequences (and "protective" rules) (Score:0)

Good thing nothing happened to the female...

Regarding "protective" rules for certain groups, it is possible that these rules may lead to unexpected consequences. An activism Web site mentioned a place where an individual could suffer an extremely bad punishment if a child identified them as a molester (of couse, consider someone whose actions were misinterpreted...) There would be no alternative for the individual facing punishment under such circumstances. On the surface, this sounds like a great idea. However, it was actually problematic: An individual facing the possibility of a child identifying them as a molester has a very bad problem as to what they can do. It turns out that the individual facing punishment has an incentive to kill the child to prevent identification. Although that is punishable, it was said that an individual was better off being punished for murdering a child than being punished because a child identified them as a molester. It was mentioned as to whether providing alternatives could avoid problems for everyone.

What is your point with all of this Anonymous user?
You do not care about men, are you a feminist by the way, I think that you are lost. It has nothing to do with children, it was an adult thing, there was no child abuse here.
