DV Against Men (Barbados)
posted by Adam on 11:52 AM May 16th, 2004
Domestic Violence Mangesh writes "A meeting of police officials and other govt agencies dealing with DV was held in Barabados. The main focus was violence against women, but DV against men was also discussed, which is `swept under the proverbial carpet'. Some participants also acted out a scene where a man is facing physical abuse (the story carries a picture of the scene). Some awareness! Read it here"

Never quite admits men are victims who need help (Score:0)

"The panel discussion also sought to address domestic violence against men, which is usually swept under the proverbial carpet. One man was brave enough to come forward and admit that he was a victim of such abuse."

The statement above was the 2nd to the last paragraph. Men as victims of d.v. are clearly treated like an after thought in this article, just like they are treated like an after thought by the legal authorities.

A few years ago men would not have even been mentioned. At least men have now been elevated to the position of after though in discussions about domestic violence.

"We need to have structure, in the same way that there is a safe house for the ladies, there needs to be an institution some where ... men are allowed to go, or from the judicial perspective where they are asked to go for counselling,” he said."

Men need shelters to escape the battering of women, at first it sounded like this paragraph would address that, but then said we need a place to "send men" with the assumption that they are the ones who need counselling when in many cases it is the violent females. This is still not recognizing or addressing the problem of violent, and abusive women.

This article never quit admits fully how much men are victims that need help, or that there are many violent battering females.

Sincerely, Ray
