More 'Oddly Enough' on Yahoo's news site
posted by Adam on 02:33 PM April 9th, 2004
The Media Matt writes "Article. Of course if she had been a he... we all know that he'd be in jail and get fined! Maybe we ought to start an e-mail write-in campaign to Yahoo re its sexist 2x-standard placement of when-she-was-bad stories in the "Oddly Enough" section vs. placing the when-he-was-bad stories right up on the front page. Any takers?"

What is a "damage claim"? I wonder if she is actually going to have to pay that or whether there's a way out of that too.

In this article there are 7 paragraphs. Not ONE mentions the hassle (listed, enumerated, and described) that other passengers, pilots, and personnel went through for this "poor confused little girl."

Nope, they give HER 2 paragraphs to tell "her side" of "how she felt".

And ya gotta love this BS:

woman was convicted Thursday of disturbing the peace for phoning a bomb threat to Duesseldorf airport

and her "punishment"?!

The woman was given a suspended sentence

Like we say in the military: "WHAT THE FUCK, OVER?"

This woman made a terroristic threat that caused the loss of MAN-hours, lost revenue, and an atmosphere of fear. That airport came to a freaking standstill because she chose to disrupt THOUSANDS of people's lives versus her having to fess up to mom and dad that she is dating a guy who they may not like.

WOMEN DON'T LIE ABOUT SERIOUS ISSUES!!!! ha ha ha - nah, terrorist threats aren't a serious lie. She was "conflicted"

DON'T YOU DARE BLAME THE "VICTIM"!!! This poor lamb was put in a difficult situation: confronting her parents like an adult or causing a suspected terrorist attack and all the fear and stress that follow. Nah, can't "blame the victim" can we. (Bad MRAs ... very very bad MRAs tsk tsk)

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SHE IS "GOING THROUGH"!!!
And neither, apparently did she care what anyone ELSE was "going through". Nope, just me me me me me. And what does the prosecutor DO to this child in a woman's body? He REAFFIRMS that if she does this kind of behavior she can get off. YEAH!!! way to send a message asshole. I'm sure the next "slightly confused" woman who read this got THAT message loud and clear.

Also, forget JUST changing the gender. That's TOO EASY. What if a man did this as a PRANK, instead of cupcakes "good reason" (based on her screwed up thinking/feelings). Any bets that "disturbing the peace" would NOT be what he was ALLOWED to cop a plea to?

What a farce.

Origionaly the cops thought that her BOY FREIND had made the call. I don't know why she didn't but if she HAD kept her mouth shut they would have arrested the boy friend and then you can bet HE'D have gotten the whole three years in prison and the complete fine!
B.T.W. does anyone else remember that there was another incident similar to this one about a year ago? I can't remember all the details, but some girl on a cruise ship did the same thing, more or less, because she didn't want to go on a cruise with her parents but instead wanted to spend time with her boy freind.
I can't remember whether or not she payed much of a penalty for this little fiasco, but if history is a good teacher then I'd guess she, like this other girl, just got a little slap on the wrist, I don't know.

I know the boyfriend was originally arrested, but most places record the phone call. And even if that fails they know a male from a female voice. They probably arrested him to put pressure in him to talk.

Being in the military and having a lot of cop friends I know how interrogations work. Not dissing you in any way, just being logical.

Interesting analysis everyone.

Considering how the German gov't released that associate of the 19 high jackers a day or two ago, I'm not too surprised by their lax handling of this.

That released individual was actually covering for the 19 (paying bills, etc.), while they were manuvering closer to their 9/11 locations. The German's released him, because the U.S. has an individual who was involved in the plot in custody, and they (the U.S.) wouldn't let him testify in the German case.

The woman in the posted story definitely commtted a terrorist act by terrifying all those other passengers that way. She could have given someone a heart attack. What about her infliction of emotional trauma, pain and suffering? She got off way too lightly on the jail time.

this woman shouldnt even be allowed to date because she is not yet fully an adult, what she did was quite puerile. instead of standing up like an emotionally grounded adult to her parents and risking their rejection, she choose the typical *woman's* way out, using subterfuge. until she has demonstrated that she has broken away from mommy and daddy's apron strings no man should indulge her affections.
