Drive for Referendum on Shared Custody in Michigan
posted by Adam on 03:59 PM March 15th, 2004
Fatherhood Larry writes "Dads of Michigan is starting a petition drive to get a question on the the November Ballot. The ultimate goal is to get a law passed so that divorced couples share custody of their children, unless one parent is declared unfit. The kickoff of the campaign was covered by both Channel 7 News in Detroit and the Detroit News newspaper. To learn more about the petition drive that Dads of Michigan started Saturday at post officers across the state, give Dads of Michigan a call at 248-559-DADS."

Look at all this activism! In all my time as an admin here, I've never seen so much activism happening as I have now.

What's at stake here is the beginning of the beginning. Naturally, there was little national press; but if they succeed in getting this on the ballot, and if this proposition actually passes, there will be reprecussions across the nation. This is our foot in the door. If we can start a letter campaign at our local newspapers, if we can do anything to draw the country's atttention to this, we will start a revolution. These 1000 canvassers are our Spartans at Thermopylae.

All the resources of all the fathers' and men's activist groups should be mobilized to concentrate on this one action. We make some noise and I guarantee you a million beatdead and dying fathers will emerge from the caves. This is more important than the June conference, maybe more important than the Million Father March. Lest we forget, this is an election year.

If this fails, Cox will make every noncustodial father in Michigan his bitch, and that ain't not a good precedent.

Has anyone heard of Caitlin Flannigan?

http://slate.msn.com/id/2095545/entry/2095833/

this is a letter she wrote in response to this article

http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/2004/03/flanagan .htm

on nannys employed by well off professional women. in her letter she addresses the habit of feminists of going off on irrelivant tangents to avoid the main idea. She is a sharp one.
