Men's Rights Congress - June 2004
posted by Adam on 03:10 PM February 28th, 2004
National Coalition of Free Men Matt writes "DC Chapter of NCFM is sponsoring a mens' rights congress this summer, over Father's Day week-end. This will be a summit of sorts, intended to bring many different groups together to find ways men's rights activists can start interacting and working with one another on an on-going basis. We will find our strength in cooperation and numbers, and this is where it can begin.... bot ONLY if you are willing to make it happen!! Please go to www.mensrights2004.com and register for the conference as soon as possible so we can make the appropriate conference-related logistical decisions in good time to accomodate attendees. Matt"

"We will find our strength in cooperation and numbers,",

I agree with this assessment and would only add "organization" to it.

The overwhelming impediment to the men's movement is that men are generally not aware, and not offended enough about the abuse of men until they suddenly find themselves in the ranks of the "walking wounded."

Men who have been ripped off by the system are all emotionally battered, some have been physically battered, all are financially battered, and most are very, very depressed with life.

Tragically that makes for a very disempowered group of men who whine a lot, are bitter and outraged, but lack the resources to do anything about it. A lot of men can't even get on the internet to get to the best link that battered, abused and ripped off men have.

Still, if only they would all just get involved their collective numbers would make a difference, therefore I propose that a section of some group like NCFM actually be called "the walking wounded." It would literally be for men who are too disempowered to fight their oppression, and who are nothing more than slaves to America's legal system for the rest of their lives.

It would be an honorary section where those people who are just too destroyed by the plague of radical feminist laws would at least once have their names recorded as being victims of unjust laws targeting men.

America has a great tradition of killing its men slowly a piece at a time. The first big piece they got from me was in Vietnam, then my 1st divorce, then my 2nd divorce, there was also my exposure to asbestos, my rip off at the hands of domestic violence and domestic violence law, etc., etc., etc.

Men are expected to just suck it up and get tough or die, but I say whine like hell, then whine some more. We certainly have a lot more valid complaints than the scam artist radical feminists who have been making life in America a living hell for men for the past 30 years.

Just remember we are not privileged patriarch's as the scam artist feminists and women's studies professors would like everyone to believe. We are the "one foot in the grave" men's movement and we need all the help and luck we can get just to stay alive another day.

Sincerely, Ray

For those who "don't have the gas" having the meeting broadcast over the internet would be a good substitute.

Having things broadcast over the internet is a good idea. However, I think it is even more important that we talk with our feet. We need to get men out to this event to let congress know that we are a viable force to be reckoned with. If only a few show up this will perpetuate their perrenial assumptions that men are asleep at the wheel when it comes to standing up for their rights. The first day of this event is a gathering to lobby our representatives on Capitol Hill. Having several hundred angry men sounds like a good idea to me. Join us!

I agree that is important so I make the proposal that there be a sign up list for people who would like to be there, but can't due to the disempowering devastation they have experienced at the hands of their misandrist government. You can even refer to it as a MIA/KIA list for: Males In Absence, Kept In Abusiveness (by Feminist Controlled Government). We could probably do better on the Acronyms with a little time.

I'm going out to have breakfast now, but I will be wearing this in the Coffeshop to try to make this point.
(click) Government is Sexist & Hostile Against Men! or (click) Courts are Sexist & Hostile

I would love to go to D.C. this Summer if for no other reason than to get some nice shots of our Gov't's. bldgs. for future T-shirts, but it just isn't possible, given the circumstances I am struggling with. The men's movement doesn't get the financial support (government or private) that women's groups do. Most of the guys have to work just to survive, and aren't allowed to take time off. A lot of women who go to women's commissions get time off from work, etc. We will probably never be able to get anywhere near the movement that women have as long as our government and society are so outright hostile and hateful toward men's rights and issues. Which, brings me to the last obstacle I see in this movement and maybe the biggest. A lot of guys in this movement are suffering from depression as a result of all the abuse they have endured and the hopelessness that characterizes their lives. The majority of the men's movement is (in reality) the walking wounded. Some days they look more like zombies on a trek, out of a scene in "Night of the Living Dead." That's not very cheery, but at least it is as honest an assessment as I can perceive of what we are up against.

After all that pessimism and negativity, I have to say that in my heart of hearts I wish you every success, and am truly working for the day when I can make one of these events. I believe the last one was in Mich.

Talking about these issues is important but getting out from behind our computer screens and taking a stand is now a necessity. Aren't you tired of being surrounded by people who think that men, boys and fathers have all the power and get everything they want? Just imagine spending two or three days with like-minded men and women who understand the misandry of our laws and culture and have a passion for changing things. What a breath of fresh air!

I know that not everyone can make it. For those of you who can't make it you can still help. On the registration page we have three options, one is for registering for the congress. The other two are for scholarships and donations. If you can't make it you can still make it possible for another man to attend. Any donation will help. Even a dollar or two.

I for one will not be sitting on my couch thinking of creative reasons why I cannot attend this conference. There are far more reasons for going than not going. It's time to quantify our words. I don't even have a job right now, but I have enough frequent flyer miles to get me there.

Hope I don't show up at an empty room.

That's the spirit TLE! We are looking into alternative housing other than the hotel which even if used by two men still isn't cheap at about $69 a night. We already have a number of men in the DC area who have volunteered their homes to house attendees while they are in town. This will make it very inexpensive. For those on the east coast who can drive it shouldn't be a financial burden. We don't want any man to not come due to money and will work to find ways to get people here.

We also decided that for my 13 yr old homeschooling he will be doing weekly current events and then he may attend one day of the conference. Part of his assignment would be to interview a couple of you guys if you don't mind. It would be painfully short as he is extremely shy, and he probably won't look at you.

Do you think the conference could use a child-minding service? I'd be willing to help. Although for liability reasons, we would need two adults present at all times, and one probably better be a woman.

I am not sure. Maybe you could put the question on the web site and see if you get a lot of takers? Your best bet might be to hire the job out, I am sure there are professional sitting services in DC. I would not mind helping (I was a child care provider for 8 years) but I would not want to spend my whole weekend with the kids and miss out on the conferance. Maybe 1-2 hour stints, in pairs if you get enough volunteers? There may not be enough people who would need it and you wouldn't have to worry about it.

As far as liability, we could set it up in a corner in full veiw of everyone there, with a puppypen fence around it. I am not sure what the set up is as far as the size and space of the room or rooms we will be using, or the age of the kids.

If it turns out there is a need for the childcare, if you get me a list of the kids and their ages who will be there by about 3 weeks before the date, I can set up enough activities to keep them occupied. We will also need snacks for them, napping space, and time and place to run amok and make noise. I will also set up a schedule for volunteers if you have them e-mail me. Let me know.

When we were doing the whole Warren Farrell for Gov. thing last Fall out here in CA, we held a rally in the Parking lot of the San Diego Padres. I'm just an amatuer, but I videotaped on Digital Video about an hour of speakers, including Dr. Farrell. Later I edited the video and put in chapter stops in front of the speakers. Yes I was even one of the speakers. I burned it onto DVD and sent it to friends. Those blank DVD's aren't cheap, but it is a very nice record of the event and someday it would be nice to put sound bite size excerpts on a web site.

I hope someone has a good digital still camera. They've gotten cheaper. If someone could get some nice shots of the event without giving away any need to protect identities it would be nice for the rest of us to see.

NCFMLA is working on the web site and we hope someday to get a few more pictures up ourselves.

Right now NCFM-DC's web site is the envy of all the others. It really does look superb.
