The Media Thundercloud. writes "Any one seen many previews to the up comeing Halle Berry movie "CATWOMAN"? I haven't either but I have seen snipetts of the film. and guess what? we apearantly have yet ANOTHER whip crackin' dominatrix type woman that will, You guessed it;, tie up, gag, beat up and hit men with a whip. since the subject of anti-man violence has been brought up on other posts, I just thought I'd give every one a heads up on this little gem of a flick. Frankly I'm sick to death of these types of films. and I wish there was more protest from men about them. The film is to be released on July 30th 2004. How long do we let this go on?"

When it comes to gratuitous violence the movie industry is like a bottomless pit. Most of the violence depicted in movies is male on male. Let me rephrase that, most of the violent deaths depicted in movies is male on male. If we want to stir up the audience's sense of righteous indignation we have bad men beat up a woman or two, or a kid or two, that way it somehow justifies what is to follow later when we reek carnage on all those bad men in the movie. Giving credit where credit is due the movies often show good men taking justice on bad men through violent deaths. "Open Range," with Kevin Costner comes to mind. I stopped believing a long time ago in the good guys who wear white hats always receive justice formula, because anybody who is familiar with courts or law in our western culture knows instead that humans who wear dresses always win if a man is in anyway involved with the dress wearer.

Yes, women are free to commit all kinds of violence without accountability, because of their assumed inherent goodness. If you're committing violence against a man in a movie it is just flat out acceptable. It is 100% acceptable to show men as violent beasts in movies, although you couldn't get away with that kind of "ism" against any other racial, ethnic or gender group. If countries can still send men to war to die so disproportionately as they do today, I suspect it will be a long, long, long time before men are not the gratuitous targets of rampant mindless violence depicted in movies.

Consider that 98% of combat deaths in Iraq are still men. Similar numbers for the thousands of wounded and maimed from that war. Yet no less an icon than Time magazine makes a woman Time's "Man" of the year, along with two other male GIs who stand behind her. If men could just that kind of recognition for the 15% of men who are domestic violence victims, that the domestic violence industry is having trouble covering up, then men wouldn't be having such difficulty getting into domestic violence shelters.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is AMERICA IS SEXIST AND HOSTILE AGAINST MEN! From movies to government, from classrooms to athletic programs there is no disputing that fact.

Sincerely, Ray

Yup, I bought one of the dang things, but as documentation.

click BOY'S ARE STUPID - THROW ROCKS AT THEM

So what does "Throw Rocks at Boys" have to do with Catwoman? They're both exploiting (advocating) violence against men in a sensational way to make a buck.

Sorry for you people who think I am shouting in my post by using all caps, but please note that is the way the words are displayed on the shirt.

So if I sell T-shirts advocating for society to treat men in a socially responsible way with equal justice and equal protection am I exploiting an issue just to make a buck? I'll be sure and let you know when I'm profiteering, because so far my activism has me thousands of dollars in the hole.
================================================
Yesterday we protested in front of the San Diego Police Dept. and this was the theme of the rally.

click Prosecute False Accusers

Many people at the rally were wearing these T-shirts, and two of the large protest signs were printed out on a laser printer, as well as six other 30" X 40" signs (out of my pocket). Many were damaged or ruined in the rain.

What does all this have to do with CatWoman? Simple. You can make your own signs and picket the theater, when the movie opens. You can point out the movie is vilifying all men, when it negatively portrays all men as nothing more than targets of violence for women.

Some will say, "it's just a movie." and "They're only exercising their right to free speech." To the later you need only reply, "... so am I."

I do apologize if it appears I am trying to commercialize by showing T-shirts through a place that sells them, but I don't have a web site, and I'm struggling to get the word out, and am trying harder to capitalize on available resources, than I am to make a buck (believe it or not).

It rained at the rally in San Diego yesterday and a number of the signs were ruined. It cost me a full tank of gas to drive there, but another NCFM member and myself were both interviewed by a local T.V. station. Later I found out that, neither of us made it on the air, and the one guy who did was portrayed as nut case. Why am I not surprised? ...so much for unbiased mainstream media coverage of anything for men.

Here is what I said to the camera: "Today is Valentine's Day, a day when a lot of men buy candy or flowers for their sweethearts, but those men in California who do so are living in a fool's paradise, one step away from mis-stepping into an anti-male government morass that will destroy their lives. All it takes is one false accusation by a female. The government is primed to take any false accusation against a man by a female and pursue it to the max based on the flimsiest of evidence, or no evidence of all. women's commissions in our governments, women's studies courses on our college campuses, women's caucuses in our legislative bodies all advocate for privileges for women based on biased gender models of both sexes (biased for women, and biased against men). Men have no voices, advocating for them, based solely on challenges and oppressions their gender faces. Consequently, government in CA is sexist and hostile against men. False accusations are a major area where men are cheated out of their constitutional rights, and prosecution of females who falsely accuse men, would be a great place to begin restoring equal justice to all - not just feminists."

In conclusion,

...so make a protest sign expressing your viewpoint about the catwoman movie, make a protest T-shirt, or do something else to get the word out, but do something. If as a last resource you can't come up with anything else to get your voice heard, then buy a T-shirt. Some of the money will go back to men's issues places, but most of it goes to the web site Cafepress, that we had to sign on to just to get the T-shirts online. My personal wish is that it would be a resource for people who have no voice to give them a way to express themselves.

Many months ago after a failed protest for which I had made 80 signs, but only had 10 men show up. I made the following statement, "I want to get 100 men to a protest. I really like the T-shirts. If you can't get 100 men to a protest, then get 100 men in T-shirts that have protest sayings on them." Instead of marching around for a few hours, a person could wear the shirt as long as it's possible over a course of many, many days and get the word out in the court of public opinion.

So far I have sold a handful of T-shirts (10 or 20) tops, but am close to 200 that I have given away. ...and it's all been worthwhile.

This Summer I plan to go out into the highways and byways (as I get time) and give T-shirts away to homeless men as I see them walking the streets. What will those shirts say? Equal Justice for Men! on one side and Government is Sexist and Hostile Against Men! on the other among other things. More on that later. Let's get the word out about men's issues.

Joe,

If you want to send a bit of support Ray's way, go buy a Tee-Shirt or three.

Ray knows as well as any of us, and better than most, how dangerous it would be to post an address.

Ragtime,

I remember your idea for a T-shirt ...

"Feminists are stupid - throw facts at them"

I actually created a design in Paint and converted it to .jpeg to post on the homepage of Men's Issues Online. It looks small (Yahoo shrank it) and a bit juvenille, but then again the D&G designs look like they could have been drawn by a third grader anyway.

I hope that's OK and I didn't violate your patent ;)

Joe:

Thank you, I'm active in NCFMLA so any donation to them or National (NCFM) helps me out too (that much less I have to spend helping them). I have been able to survive and keep my job, where a lot of guys went down the tubes or worse. I've been able to hang in there very well, with the help 1st of my church. Later after I found and joined NCFMLA I've been able to work actively to turn around some of the militant feminist misandry that has plagued so many men. On an even more personal level if you see a man whose down and out and you can help him, that would be fine too. That's the spirit of what we are trying to do. People in NCFMLA have helped me a lot and I'm just "paying it forward," (passing it along). Again, thank you very much for your kind offer.

Sincerely, Ray

P.S. I just earlier got an email earlier from NCFMLA talking about making a donation so we could get "Battered Men's Helpline" advertised and linked on Glenn Sacks HisSide web page.

That's Jan Brown's effort and also a worthy cause. I think in the next few weeks you may see that on Glenn Sacks site. Glenn is a great force in the men's movement, and we're trying to also get him all the support we can to keep his show going, while also supporting men's issues in the process.

Ray,

You're a great example of the little guy fighting for social justice. You are a powerful witness to the love of Christ in action. You are a hero! I will try to help in the ways that you suggest.

Joe

P.S. -- I have too many t-shirts, and I'm not a slogan-wearing type of guy. Otherwise I would buy a few from you.
