I was really upset when I read this. I liked Joe Liberman, but he, frankly doesn't have a clue about domestic violence (just towing the feminist line). Joe and is now just one more reason why so many men are leaving the Democrat party.
Let me be the 1st to say that when it comes to George W. Bush and John Ashcroft there's nothing they've done lately in this area that wouldn't keep them out of the same boat Joe's in. You know the boat that has "Feminist, Suck A _ _ " written on stern. Sorry, that's pretty vulgur for me, but it's true.

Here's my note I just sent to his Campaign office:
----
To: info@joe2004.com
Dear Lieberman Campaign:
I read the article at:
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/po litics/7618916.htm
I was surprised to see Mr. Lieberman framing DV only in terms of man-on-woman violence. The governement's own statistics and numerous independent stiudies show women are as likely to initiate DV attacks as men, and most instances of DV are part of a cycle of attack and reprisal. Women are also more likely to use weapons which cause more grievous injuries to their victims than are men.
DV framed as a men-only-against-women issue is a left-over from sorely outdated notions of chivalry and female passivity. I believe a progressive candidate like Mr. Lieberman should be more aware of the up-to-date facts of an issue like DV. Please ask him to review the following web sites for information about how DV is a gender-blind matter, and also is a sexuality-blind matter; DV among the gay and lesbian community is as serious an issue as among the heterosexual community, yet gets virtually no press as well.

Here's what I sent to them:
I was saddened to see that the Lieberman campaign is belching out the same tired sexist rhetoric about domestic violence. Please look at the last 30 years of research that shows clearly that men and women are nearly equally violent and that the serious injuries that occur are roughly distributed 62% women and 38% to men. (Archer, J, Psyc Bul 2000, meta analysis).
The sad fact now is that the 38% men who are victims are ignored (or worse yet are arrested after being falsely accused) and go without treatment facilities across our country. Is there an emergency shelter in your state of Connecticut that accepts men and their children? I bet you don't even know the answer to that question. Did you know that the Justice Department estimates there were over 835,000 men who were victims of domestic violence last year? How many would that be in Connecticut?
I would be glad to support a candidate that had the courage to bring this glaring atrocity to the forefront and sought ideas and solutions. Mouthing the same old women victims/men perpetrators is simply pandering to the female vote.

Hello Senator Liberman,
Here is the e-mail I sent to his headquarters.
No answer after two days and counting.
"I would like to know what your stance is about the "other half" of domestic violence? That "other half" is the domestic violence perpetuated against MEN. I am genuinely interested in your answer to this problem."

Lieberman Proposes Domestic Violence Plan
HOLLY RAMER
Associated Press
"I want to say to women who may be in this situation, 'Come out of the shadows. Don't take it. Ask for help,'" Lieberman said during a discussion at a campaign supporter's home in Bedford. "And I say to men, 'Strong men don't beat women. Strong men take care of their women.'"
