Three Stories Deleted
posted by Scott on Wednesday October 29, @01:02PM
from the news dept.
News I have deleted three recent postings on MANN that were too far off-topic for this site. One was on the subject of separation of church and state in the U.S, another on the shutdown of a Nestle plant, and a third on junk food and alternative medicine. I'd like to reiterate that the purpose of Mensactivism.org is to focus on stories and activism directly related to men's rights and dignity - we are not a general news site for men (such as Men's News Daily, which is a great site for that purpose). The deleted stories are legitimate topics of discussion and debate, just not here. Please check out Our Philosophy page to get an idea of what Mensactivism.org's guiding principles are. Thank you for keeping this in mind.

As management, you have the system set up so that all story submissions have to be approved by you before being posted. You post three stories that are off topic, then blame us for them being posted and chew us out?

Not only that, we take the time to post comments to these "off topic" stories that you posted, then you totally delete the stories which makes a total waste of the time we took to create and post our comments. And then you have the chutzpuh to chew us out?

Have you got your heads on straight? Or maybe you should pull them out of your collective butts!

I just want to say that Mensactivism is great and all involved deserve our praise and not our criticism. I'm sure it involves great sacrifice in time and money to keep it afloat. The constant monitoring of posts (with occasional deletions)is vital;otherwise the feminazis could sabotage the site very easily.

I didn't get the feeling that Scott was blaming the readers or those who posted comments to the stories. He was calmly stating that he deleted the off-topic stories and why. His explanation and tone seemed pretty reasonable to me.

I couldn't understand what those stories were doing here. Thanks to Scott for his leadership to help keep us focused on men's issues. There are a lot of places to discuss alternative medicine, plant shutdowns, and separation of church and state. In contrast, there is very little discussion anywhere of men's issues.

As someone pointed out, feminazi's love to find ways to distract us and make us look like demons. Don't play into their hands, or the hands of their lackeys.

yo, I don't think Scott approves every story that comes down the pipe, the other moderators approve them too. I don't think he was blaming us specifically, just as a general inclusive "we're deleting this stuff and this is why" to remind both the people who approve any submissions and us goobers who submit them [I didn't submit the deleted ones, but have had submissions rejected].

Your assumption is incorrect. I did not approve those stories, and this site is not set up to do so.

"Not only that, we take the time to post comments to these "off topic" stories that you posted, then you totally delete the stories which makes a total waste of the time we took to create and post our comments. And then you have the chutzpuh to chew us out?"

Your interpretation of my post is also incorrect. I'm not here to chew anyone out. I felt obligated to explain why those posts were deleted, and that was my motivation for what I wrote. There was no malice or anger in it anywhere.

"Have you got your heads on straight? Or maybe you should pull them out of your collective butts!"

I think you need to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Your pants are on fire! Or is it that you just like to play word games with us who you feel are stupid.

Whether or not you personally approved those stories is irrevelant. You (the management of this website) approved the stories before you (the management of this website) posted them. There are always new people joining this discussion board and there will always be "off topic" submissions.

The way this website is set up is that all submissions are first approved by you (the management of this website) and as a result, what gets posted or not is your (the management of this website) responsibility.

I had one posting rejected back around June because the person reviewing my post (the management of this website) didn't like what I said concerning how an American woman should be treated in a case where she was trying to see/take back her children from the children's father in Saudi Arabia. I have no sympathy for a woman who uses a kangaroo family court (such as those here in the U.S. that assume that the mother is always the better parent), to justify taking her children from a father whose country automatically assumes that the man is the better parent. And no, I don't submit vulgar postings. This was a difference of opinion concerning how this woman should or should not be treated by the Saudi's in this situation. Management apparently felt that we, as men, should be more chivalrous when giving our opinions concerning women and their rights in such family court disputes.

Bottom line? Submissions that get posted on this website are the respoinsibility of the management of this website based on how it's set up... that you (the management of this website) have to approve of everything that is submitted before it's posted (not counting subsequent comments, of course).

I didn't care for the "reminder" either, as we're not the ones who need reminding in this case. But I think you're taking this a little too persoonally, Dittohd.

I would list this site as one of the major reasons I am now aware of the reality of feminism. I appreciate all the work that goes into this board, and i think that anyone who is that upset at how it is run should perhaps start up a board of their own, just to see howmuch work and time goes into this. The management made a mistake *gasp*, then fixed it without blaming anyone. I say Bygones.

Thank you Scott for keeping things in line with the philosophy of MANN. It's easy sometimes to drift to areas that aren't directly related. Thanks for bringing us back.

I didn't see this as a chewing out, just a needed adjustment to keep us focused.

We almost need one post for things that come up from time to time, but done in a responsible way. Here I hope is one expample:

I'm o.k. & not in a bad fire area.

I emailed people I know who are active in the men's groups out here in Southern CA to see how they were. So far all are o.k. We are all feeling the effects of the smoke. The air is acrid and is hard to breath. The smoke is everywhere, and we are breathing ash too. Ash is covering everything lightly or heavily depending on where you live. This morning there was a little blood in my sputum from it all, but nothing too bad.

In one forwarded email to me the author talked about some neighbors who had lost their homes, but he and his family were fine.

Another guy I work with daily helped members of his family save their home, but his home was o.k. He was off work two days, and lives in one of the bad areas hit.

There have been some freeway closures so I've hit bad traffic, even though a lot of people stayed home.

They say the weather is changing in a day or two and it's going to get better, but it can't come soon enough.

We activists have things planned in terms of projects, etc., but right now we are all staying indoors with air cleaners running and waiting for the fires to end. We are definitely in a "pause" mode until we get through this one.

I saw on the news this afternoon where a women's prison work group was taking a turn on the fire line. They're doing grunt work shoveling dirt on hot spots. I have seen prison labor used before to fight these kinds of fires, but this is the 1st female prison group I've seen. You go girls. You save my bacon for a change.

I wonder if we will hear how many of the 20 casualties of this fire are men. I suspect most. Once again we see societal role conditioning contributing to the demise of men through hazardous duty. It is really unjust that men are so maligned, when it is obvious that they contribute so much.

Take care everyone,

Ray

P.S. My car is starving for air too. I think the air filter is plugged.
