NH College Costs Bill Sidelined

Divorce Code Monkey writes "In New Hampshire a bill was proposed in the state legislature that would prohibit the family courts from requiring divorced parents to pay college costs for children over the age of 18. The bill's primary sponsor, Rep. David Bickford, proposed it after a Dover man was jailed for 43 days when he couldn't come up with almost $17,000 to pay for half of his daughter's private university tuition. Proponents of the bill say it's unfair to force divorced parents to pay college costs when the same isn't done for married parents. Unfortunately, the bill has been referred back to commission and won't be re-introduced again until next year. Read the Foster's Daily Democrat news article."

First, I'm not saying that this isn't right, and it isn't an issue we should advance.

With that in mind we'd be fools not to be aware that this is the type of issue the pheminuts, especially the "Oh, you're greeeeeeeeeedy! You're ANTI-Chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiild!" love. In the typical fascist framing of the issue, they are going to try to position this in such a way that "Support for this bill=Not caring about the welfare of your Children."

And screw them for the bunch of hiding-behind-a-child cowards they are - but any opposition to this must be approached from the awareness that this will be their opening gambit. A pre-prepared rapid response needs to be crafted to counter this before battle is even joined, otherwise we'll be left standing there with our schlongs dangling in the wind.

Never mind that the custodial (Which is 90%+ "Mommy") won't be required to foot the other half, and if they do ther'll be subsidized by alimony and child support (and guess who pays that?). I'll spare us the rant right now on that particular piece of bullsh!t.
