MANN Chat: Why Can't Boys Be Boys?

from the Boys/Young-Men dept.
Boys/Young Men I will host this week's MANN chat, Wednesday night (5/21), starting at 9:30 PM Eastern Time, at the usual location. The topic for this chat will be "Why Can't We Let Boys Be Boys?"  That's the title of a recent insightful commentary, by Marcia Vickers, in the same issue of Business Week that contains the controversial cover story, "The New Gender Gap."  Recounting her son's experience, Vickers warns of the harm that boys can suffer at the hands of a female-centric school system, particularly in preschool and in the primary grades.   Do you share her concerns?  Join us at this week's MANN chat to discuss why there may be a lot wrong with our educational systems, but little, if anything, wrong with boys.  Invite some friends to join you!

Just a troll. It's a pretty transparent attempt at shaming language; the old "If you disagree you're a troublemaker, if you don't like it you're a whiner" approach.

Looking at it, I'd say white female, possibly a high school dropout, about 19, single mother. Most likely unemployed and a welfare recipient.

As such, she has a vested interest in being percieved as a victim, and in maintaining the status quo, thus any challenge to the system she views as a threat to her livlihood. Which is a professional parasite.

It is worth noting that the trolling is happening in other places right now too. Probably the same woman doing the trolling here is the one doing it in the other men's forums or forums that sympathize with men.

Yes... just ignore it and it'll craw back to the embarrassment of a life it must be leading.

I dunno why you guys respond to these trolls. Lately the only threads I see are trolls and a whole bunch of regulars responding to the trolls. This really helps the site further the masculist cause, NOT. It's usually obvious from post one that the troll is not a good faith participant, so why not use the time you spend responding to the troll discussing the real issue, or writing to your local paper or congressman instead, or doing something else more worthwhile like having a beer or wacking off.

cheers,
sd.

So we should have a bunch of threads full of "I agree" "Ditto" and "Me too?"

It'ss disagreement that spurs conversation, SD; which is one of the factors of male socializing that women cannot understand - men don't sit around generally and just gab to hear the sound of their own voices; if we know our buddies' opinion, there's no point in discussing it unless we disagree and can hope to change his mind.

The whole problem with trolls like this is that , as has been said elsewhere, any lie told often enough tends to be believed. We men have gotten in the habit of recent years of not saying, "Shut up, you ignorant cow, you don't know what you're talking about."

Make the girls cry, is what I say. I'm all for, believe it or not, girls running with the boys - so longs as they don't have a special pass and special rules to do so. If they can't, well, biotch, get yer ass in the kitchen an' fix me my supper!

Break the cycle wherever you can, and get over the one sided chivalry that still haunts us; if the tears well up, tell them to go back to the powder room and take a goddam Midol; let men rule the world as they were intended to, and to shut up and look pretty.

Here's as good a place as any for ya'll to get in the habit. Try it in real life sometime next. You'll be amazed at how many women will cave once you refuse to play their game under their rules.
