Venomous Male Bashing Op-Ed

The Media Freebird writes "In this Op-Ed piece Jim Reeves makes no attempt at all to mask his venomous misandry. Words alone just cannot do justice to this piece. Granted, he's entitled to his opinion, but we should make ours known, not only to him and his newspaper, but everyone else. If this sort of thing goes unanswered, it will just open the floodgates to even more of the same. Now we know how the Jews felt in Germany before the extermination camps began. You'll have to read it to appreciate it."

Agreed.

There is worse male bashing going on today if anyone happens to catch Dr. Phil at 4 p.m. On NBC I think. He is devoting an entire show to how stupid he thinks men are compared to women.

Apparently not stupid enough to watch his show. Can anyone say, 'know your market'?

I guess those fanatics who watch for sexism and racism etc... havn't had a chance to watch doctor Phil yet either. : )

If Annika is allowed to play on the PGA tour, fine. But then Tiger gets to go play LPGA tour events and blow the doors off all the women. The way golf (and most sports) have been organized, is to have two leagues seperated by sex. Women play with women, men play with men. This way of organizing things is accepted by most people. If there is going to be some cross polination from one side to the other, you have to give up the segregation entirely. It makes sense to have either women's and men's leagues or good and bad leagues. It does not make sense to have a women's league and a good league.

Oh and she is hitting off the long tees, so we have to give her that. Unlike Susie Whaley who qualified by playing a different course (short tees) than everybody else.

On several counts:

1) The article is pathetic. It's a self hating, antagonistic, lambaste against men, gratuitously exploiting the comments of a couple male golfers. Right or wrong, their comments regarding Anika are being exploited to slam, ridicule, and diminish an entire gender. The article was written in the spirit of hostility and belligerence, reflecting in large part the maturity (or lack thereof) of the author, and his inner struggle and conflict with his own manhood.

2) Anika got here legitimately. So she got a sponsor's pass,...it's the sponsor's perogative and part of the rules. She is the best of her group, let's see what she can do.

3) Tiger in the LPGA? Please guys let's not be ridiculous. Would you also wish to see Barkley and Karl Malone banging the boards in the WNBA. What's the point?

4) "Now we know how the Jews felt before they were subject to genocide in WWII"? No! You DON'T know how that must have felt! Any comparisons or parallels is ignorant, obscene, and stupid. Anyone who draws them is likewise.

The (obvious) point is how hypocritical it is to force male players to accept female players when there is no corresponding push to get male players to play with females.

So a champion female player is going to play in a mens tournament. More power to her. But then lets really be fair and have a champion male player go to an LPGA event.

Look guys, this is not hypocritical. In the course of human events, we as a species attempt to surge forward in endeavors and challenges of skill, knowledge, and accomplishment. Forwards...not backwards guys. Child prodigy's are given a pass right to college, adult geniouses do not seek to compete in fifth grade spelling bees. (although technically, that would be fair). The sponsor of this event was allowed under the pre-established rules to give a pass to whomever he wanted...Saddam Hussein, Usama Bin Laden, Bill Clinton, Felix the cat. Would those choices make you feel better?

See, I agree with scudsucker here, and I'd like to point out that my wanting a male player to play in an LPGA tournament has nothing to do with spite, revenge, or backlash. It's just an exchange program. People are placing too much emphasis on this.

I have no problem, really, with Annika playing at the Colonial (why is a tournament in Texas called the Colonial, by the way?), and I think she'll make the Saturday cut, and (not but) I have no problem with a male player wanting to play in a women's tournament. There's a good chance he'd win--although not a guarantee--but this is just about being fair to both genders.

I think there are two issues here. One is with sponsor passes. Apparently this has been an issue with golfers for a quite a while, and it is coming to a head now because of the Annika thing. They have apparently argued for a while that a golfer should earn a place in a tourney, and there should be no sponsor exemptions. Seems reasonable to me, regardless of whether the person in question is woman or man.

So then the other question is with regards to segregation by sex. I stand by my opinion (stated in another AU post) that if you are going to segeregate by sex you've got to go all the way. Men with men, women with women. Doing anything else is giving preferential treatment to one group.

I dissagree, and I also think that the Jews were not the only ones to suffer. I also think the Jews have done their fair share of their own forms of torture on other groups. History can be supressed, but not for ever, especially if it repeats itself.

The comparissons are valid as it is the Ideology that is in question here, not the racial issues.

What makes Totalitarianism such a remarkable thing is its ability to supress any forms of critisism. The Jews are not 'snow white' no race is. That is not an 'Anti-semite' statement, that is a statement of Objectivety.

If Im accused of a hatecrime it only proves my point of Totalitarianism.

Playing the victim card for eternity doesn't fly with me, sorry.

That wasn't the comparison that was being made. The comparison was between how the media treat men today and how the media treated jews in Germany right before the extermination camps, and it isn't only valid but IMO its also a very insightful analogy.

A sports columnist in one of Chicago's newapapers made a poignant comment about this whole bashing Annika. He felt that if those guys want to bash her, let them. He said while some of their comments seem immature, the overall truth is that she will not do well for the obvious physical reasons. Therefore, the men should not feel intimidated for pointing this out. But his most notable comment was directed at the sports writers who bash these men. He pointed out that all these writers who speak so vociferously about equality, the spirit of competition, and the caveman like attitudes of those that oppose Annika playing, would feel insulted and humiliated if they were required to cover the LPGA for the next couple of years. After all, what authentic male sports writer would want to cover GIRLS sports! Three cheers to him for pointing out the phony martyrs.

It's interesting to see the reaction from feminists and their liberal friends when males make denigrating comments about women athletes, politicians, journalists, entertainers, etc. The print and electronic media is saturated with male-bashing columns/ commentary churned out by folks like Maureen Dowd and others who work for liberal papers and TV networks. It's become so common that it's taken for granted.

Kind of like what the Jew bashing was before the Nazis started cooking them in easy bake ovens?

They demoralize, dehumanize and eventual eradicate. There is a war going on against men don't kid yourselves.

Secondly, I think this writer was just jumping on the band wagon. Looking to get some contraversy spouted up to sell himself and his paper.

All that does is make men stronger and women weaker. Women have to start further up on the course, which forced men to become even better.

Women have been wanting a head start since the beginning. It has never helped them in the past to evolve and it won't now.

Men have always had to work harder and more efficeintly which is why they succeed to such greatness.

If the woman wants to truely succeed she as an individual will choose to start where all the others start. If she chooses the easy way, she only shortchanges her self, even if she does win.

And the male golfers who are squawking about it are, indeed, being stupid and petty. Okay. So she wants to play the men's tourney. Fine, so long as she tees off at the men's tee.

But then we should also allow the mens into the women's PGA tourney, where they would presumably tee off at the women's tee.

But then the very same people who are applauding Sorenstam are crying bloody murder at Brian Kontak's bid to eneter the LPGA.

http://www.sports-central.org/sports/golf/articles /article168.shtml

Typical chivalrous bullshit. Short girl smacks a man in the face then claims immunity from repercussion on the account of her wearing glasses. Wants admission to all of the private clubs of men, but then excludes men from entering hers.

News just in: Chivalry is dead. You are awarded no points for having boobs. FYI, there is a lot of money riding on the LPGA, and there are quite a few men out there who could feed there families quite well based on their golf skills playing in that tournament. And they wouldn't even have to be top male players.

Look Sorenstam. Holy sh*t! You're a girl. Nobody gives a f*ck. Now crawl back into the whole you came out of before you get your *ss kicked.
