Massachusetts Killing State Prostate Cancer Funding
posted by D on Sunday March 09, @04:04PM
from the Men's-Health dept.
Men's Health CodeMonkey writes "The Massachusetts state budget allocated to prostate cancer research and awareness has gone from $3.2 million a few years ago to NOTHING today. According to this MetroWest Daily News article, 765 men in MA died of this disease in 2000. What's even more sickening about this is that state funding for breast cancer is barely being cut, to about $3 million. Breast cancer killed 1,055 women in 2000. The injustice of this, and the discrimination it amounts to, are absolutely incredible. Where is the public outcry from Mass. men and medical professionals?"

It seems to me that the title of the article should say, "Massachusetts Killing State Prostate Cancer Funding". The final 'g' is missing. Not trying to pick nits or anything. :)

The major newspapers or TV local TV media did not touch this subject. This is the first I have heard about this. There has been a lot of coverage an every budget cut you can imagine, yet nothing on this...

It is a sick coverup... if this were to happen to breat cancer funding, the media would have people storming the statehouse.

Feminism is blind sexism.

This is really a scandal.

The only positive thing that I notice in the article is that the budget allocated to fighting the HIV is not decreased...and as the biggest part of HIV-infected-people are men, this is good news eventually.

Meanwhile the motor vehicle death rate disparity between males and females in MA (deaths, not even counting serious injury) is 11 : 4.6 (per 100,000). That's a huge disparity.

Those interested might also want to check out the male:female homicide rate and the age ranges involved in all these statitics.
