Two Double Standards in One Article: Child Molestation and Child Custody
posted by Scott on Sunday December 08, @10:18PM
from the inequality/double-standards dept.
Inequality warble writes "This is the typical article of a women getting minimal bail for molesting an 11-year-old boy. Naturally, the police are trying to blame the tall boy for making sexual advances. Oddly enough, the fully-grown 28-year-old woman was unable to overcome the minor’s sexual advances and gave-in. By contrast, we all know that tall 14-year-old girls NEVER come on to older men in their late 20’s. Nope! According to feminists, such men who give in to the sexual advances of a minor are actually predators who are products of the evil patriarchy! Clearly, we need an explanation for this evil woman's weakness. Too bad it doesn't include her taking personal responsibility.

Anyway, Everett is a divorced woman who had a child by her ex-husband. Now where do you think that child was taken after the arrest? The logical choice would be the father. Right? Wrong! For the bigoted male-hating police of Virginia Beach, the logical choice is to take the child to the sister of the molester.

Now image a world that is free of male-hate. Do you think the father of the child might have gotten the child while custody hearings take place? A father cannot even get temporary custody while hearings are in progress."

Imagine this one if the case were reversed and a 28 year old man could no longer resist the advances of a 12 year old girl:

"Authorities said the girl, now 12, has roughly size 36D breasts."

I would like to know exactly how in the hell the boy's height is of any relevance whatsoever.

Apparently, he is not short enough to be protected under the law from molestation.

The author seems to be implying that it is actually the boy's fault that he got molested because he is just too damn TALL. My God.

Methinks that if enough men could pull their heads out of their asses long enough to quit paving the road to their own enslavement, then we [men's movement] might actually get somewhere.

Strange how the courts don't seem nearly as concerned with the "better interests of the child" when the child's interests are mutually exclusive to the better interests of a woman.

There are no male children, only young perpetrators. "child" is mutually exclusive to "male". Just round all us hairybacks up in a heard, young and old like, and drive us to the meat grinder. Most of us are too goddamn stupid to know what the hell is happening anyway...

Like the "You Must Be This Tall" signs are carnivals and fairs, to go on the rides, apparently this now applies to sexual consent? Wow.
I remember a girl who could really pass for a sixteen or seventeen at twelve. She was invited to a friend's highschool graduation, a few boys who'd just gotten out of their senior year were hitting on her - now, would this have made any difference in a molestation case? No. But that comment tries to imply that if a child looks older than they are, it's okay to molest them.

on this story. He knows all too well that this is not an even sided fight. Jon gave me a specific example of a story where a judge, presiding over a case involving sexual misconduct by an older woman with an 8th grade boy, had had enough, said he didn't understand the need for a discussion on sentencing when, if the roles were reversed, a man would be put away with no protest at all, and sentenced a woman to prison! Good for that judge!

I've given him our URL, and he stated to me that he'll come to our site and check it out.

Anyway, I'm also sending him email so that he can keep me posted on this case as it progresses.

Mitchell,

I would really like to know more about why that child is not in the father's custody. It is angering that the father must fight for custody while the molester's sister gets temp. custody.

Warble,

Since I was sticking to the story’s main subject, I didn’t take the time to inquire. I do my best to keep any phone conversation directly on point so that I appear concerned and genuine rather than becoming annoyance. In my next email I’ll inquire what he knows about this situation.

The father's name in this case is Chris Everett. I'm already in the process of tracking him down, and, once found, asking him to tell his story here.

Just for information about how I view this process, my stance is to contact as many people as possible and raise our voice level from 'negligible' to 'simmering undercurrent' to 'actionably viable' to 'pulse of the nation', without falling into the trap of ‘not those irritating bastards again’. A favorable media spin will certainly help our cause.

Mitchell,

We are noticing that as NCFM, LA uses a similar tactic that it is getting harder for the media to put us on ignore. For example, we had a protest rally last Nov. 19, 2002, and the media is still reporting on the lawsuit one month later. This is great!

Now we are filing another suit against Los Angeles because there is a women's health commission and no similar commission for men. That should raise the tone a bit more, and it should make it harder for the press to ignore the men's rights movement.

And then there are the 100's of thousands of little discrimination suits that we are filing. That is getting harder to ignore also. But those we don't really like to talk about because it really pisses off the public.
