Progress in Prostate Cancer Genetic Research

Men's Health Luek writes "Here is some good news about the fight to cure prostate cancer that kills over 30,000 American men each year. Scientists say a gene has been identified that will predict if the cancer will develop into its most lethal form. The earlier the treatment the more chance there is to cure it. Identifying this gene will give the doctors the edge in their diagnosis and treatment plan. How appropriate just a couple of weeks after Prostate Cancer 'Un'awareness Month."

some interesting facts about Prostate cancer (Score:1)

In doing some research for a paper I discovered that the lifetime risk for dying from prostaste cancer is actually slightly HIGHER than the lifetime risk posed to women by breast cancer. (Only .01% but still interesting.) If anyone is interested do a web search for SEER Statistics for prostate cancer and breast cancer. NOTE: the information is heavy on statistics and data and no summary. I love using this little tid bit when talking about BC and PC with feminists who feel that women's health issues are treated better than men's issues. Rather fun to watch the shocked look on their faces. Truth shall always triumph.

Sorry to keep hammering at this, but, Anyone else notice how much EXTRA coverage BREAST CANCER is getting, in the media, now during "Breast cancer awareness month"?
As most of us allready know, Last month,(September) was "Protate cancer awareness month".

Any one notice how much extra coverage prostate cancer DIDN'T get during that time?

Breast cancer is covered in the media almost DAILY! and during this month it has been covered even MORE than once a day on ALL the news networks. But NOTHING on prostate cancer. Not even during PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!!!

And the media CONTINUES to tell us, with a staight face, it is not BIASED!

        Thundercloud.
