Purpose of The Invisible Boy
The Invisible Boy is intended for a wide readership. Readers may find some of the issues or research presented in the document new or surprising, maybe even a little controversial. Others may find no surprises at all, but instead a confirmation of what they have experienced, observed themselves or believed all along. In any case, it is perhaps most important to see the document, not as a definitive statement of the male experience (we are too early in the struggle for that), but rather as a snapshot in time of some of the controversies, challenges, knowledge gaps and unexplored issues pertaining to the male experience of victimization. If it spurs the reader to further explore the literature, encourages the therapeutic community to expand its knowledge base about victims and perpetrators, or widens public debate on abuse to make it more inclusive, then it will have achieved its purpose.

that i had flipped on the television today for a brief moment. there in front of me was fred mathews speaking about the social pressures boys face in today's society. "wow," i thought, "who is this guy?" after the hour-long program was over, i went for a quick search and found the invisible boy.

i suppose the first thing that comes to mind is the relative date of this document. this data was published back in 1996 and yet the implementation of it's data into public policiy remain to be seen. thoughts on that?

William Levy of Montreal is currently involved in a lawsuit against the canadian government. The lawsuit is based on the fact of 'unequal' protection under the law.

This type of stuff is not new by any means. Even Warren Farrell has loads of Canadain research showing all kinds of stats that have been buried in the progress of feminism.

Im so pissed off right now Im going to stop.

I echo your disgust, Dan.

There was a time when we American Indians were reffered to as; "The vanishing Americans."
Of course we did NOT vanish. This was wishfull-thinking on the part of those who hated Indians.
Unfortunatly, there are still many who hate Indians, today. So we Indians are now ; "The invisible Americans."
What does THIS have to do with The "invisible boy"?
If you can't see the parralells, I'm not going to bother to explain it. Because any one who can't see them is either Blind, dumb or a feminist, OR all the above.
all I will say is; History, indeed, DOES repeat it's self. and in the prosses, often changes "targets".

Can you please email me some more stats on this? I'm planning a similar lawsuit of my own against my state. My email is barmstrong@joimail.com

this could have been written about me; I can't count how many times I've been expected to put up with the cruelest abuse just because I was supposed to "get used to it for the real world" etc. I don't recall any experiences with the sexual abuse mentioned, but the overall consequences have been the same by being made to feel responsible by adults and society as a whole, since the message is basically that men are responsible for their situation no matter what, and if they're not in control then they're less worthy since a man's worth in society is guaged by the control he wields, regardless; a man who triumphs over oppression is respected for it, while one who fails is blamed and discounted as unworthy; it's just another form of social darwinism.
