Gelles Article Details Repression of DV Research

Domestic Violence Dr. Richard Gelles wrote an important article for men's activists that details some of the ways that research about DV against men has been repressed and attacked over the years. It's an incredible eye-opener, and is definitely must-read material for DV activists. The L.A. chapter of NCFM received permission to reprint it on their web site, and it can be viewed here.

For Battered Men the Battering Never Ends (Score:1)

The Article said:

"The frustration men experience often bursts forth in rather remarkable obstreperous behavior at conferences, meetings, and forums on domestic violence. Such outbursts are almost immediately turned against the men by explaining that this behavior proves the men are not victims but are ”perps.”"

My reply:

From my experience, I would say that this is just a conditioned response to the abuse and pure torture that male domestic violence victims have endured at the hands of those who promote and enforce Domestic Violence law in America.

"GOD BLESS AMERICA," rings completely hollow to me these days, because of domestic violence law. Should GOD HAVE BLESSED NAZI GERMANY TOO?

There is innocent blood on the hands of those who support domestic violence law in the American legal system as surely as there is blood on the hands of Hitler or Osama Bin Laden. Hitler, Osama Bin Laden and Radical Feminists, they are all cut from the same mold.

GOD HAVE MERCY ON AMERICA, and give all good, honest people the knowledge to know right from wrong. Give them the power and the will to legally through off evil, like the present domestic violence laws, wherever that evil may be found. GOD BLESS THOSE GOOD & HONEST PEOPLE ABUNDANTLY for their are many evil, radical feminists and they are strong.

Very Truly Yours, Ray

Now that I've had the time to look over what I've said I would like to reconsider and clarify what I've said.

I think the reaction, the response, I talked about in the begining paragraph of my reply, can more accurately be described as a learned (conditioned response) born out of the many hopeless and frustrating encounters with a system that is geared to be prejudice and abusive to male victims of domestic violence at every turn and juncture.

Whew, I wouldn't want to say something that wasn't a 100% accurate. These male domestic violence victims have already endured enough pain.

a famous saying of Abraham Lincoln went through my mind, the one to the effect that you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Radical Feminism has had it's time to fool some of the people, even enough of the people to get its agenda enacted, but it can't go on forever. Nothing built on these kinds of lies and deceptions can go on forever.

It's interesting to note that Abe Lincoln himself was a battered husband.

He would often stay at a friend's (a doctor, I believe) or sleep on a couch in his office when life at home got intolerable.

Ragtime.
Thanks for that reminder. I'd forgotten about this.

As it turns out Abe Lincon was indeed an abused husband. Of all places I heared about this from a PBS documentery on Mr. Lincon.
The fact is that Lincon's wife once even smashed him in the face with a 2-by-4.
..Maybe we should compile a list of ALL the great men in history who were the victims of D.V. my guess is, The list would be longer than most might imagine.

Just a thought.

There is a book on Amazon called, "The Inner World of Abraham Lincoln," that appears to go into the abuse that he suffered at the hands of his wife.
