Getting Ready for DV Awareness Month 2002

Domestic Violence Trudy Schuett writes, "Preparation for the Domestic Violence Awareness campaign in October is just getting underway, and I wanted to alert those with an interest in the program. As you're probably aware, last year's campaign was sidetracked due to saturation media coverage of the 9/11 disaster pretty much into the Xmas shopping season. This year will be different, especially considering recent events relating to challenges to the feminist ideology in many areas. This year we will also be expanding to include other countries as well as the US, and hard-copy publications to get the information on as many websites, to as many people as possible." Read More below for the rest of her announcement.

Here's the basic plan so far: we'll be asking for the cooperation of as many men's groups, orgs, and websites as we can reach. We intend to set up a website, most likely a section of mine, as a basic resource for information for the media and general public. It will contain links to such orgs as provide services for men, as well as the basic facts&figures and other information. Most of the informational articles have already been put together, fortunately. We will also feature bio/press kit material for those experts who want to make themselves available to appear on media, along with links to their websites if they have one. Those experts who do not have a website, and would like to make themselves available, are welcome to participate. We can add their info with the others, no problem.

Websites for groups, etc, will be asked to feature an as-yet-to be-designed logo on their website linking to this info site. (We need a volunteer to design one!) They will get a link back from the site and mention as supporters in any news releases sent.

Over the course of this week, I will be contacting as many of the hard-copy publications as I have e-mail addies for, asking them to feature the logo on their website, and encouraging them to cover the issue, if possible. I'm aware this may be problematic for monthlies, since they've likely got their October issues planned, but they may be open to the website logo. I will need info on these publications, so anyone who knows of any publication with a targeted male audience, please send me the contact info! These need not be 'issues' publications - hunting, fishing, trucks, cars, professional orgs, fraternal orgs -- any kind of male-oriented publication will do. These need not be large national or international publications, either. The sooner I have contact info, the sooner I can start asking!

I'll keep everyone informed as much as possible, as time goes on. We've got Steve VanValkenburg on board again, and will be looking for volunteers from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK to help us with contact info for local media, down the road when we send news releases. We also need experts from those countries so we can promote them! (We will most likely have the cooperation of AMEN in Ireland, so that's at least one other country covered.) Later phases of the project will include pre-written letters for sending as letters to the editor, legislators, and etecetera. There will be plenty of opportunities for orgs and their members to help promote awareness, while not costing any of them much, in terms of time or money. My background is in publicity for small private charities, and so I look at everything in terms of what we can get for free.

If anyone has questions or suggestions, drop me an e-mail!

In my opinion Domestic Violence law is hate crime, pure and simple. With approximately $11,000,000.00 coming to CA every year to fund the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and $0 coming to CA and the entire United States to fund the Violence Against Men Act, this is discrimination based on sex, and that is according to a definition, given by former L.A. City Attorney James Hahn on his old web site, a hate crime.
Couple this with the Cheif of Police of LAPD and a LAPD Dective saying that 95% of domestic violence is committed by men, when there own statistics and the DOJ statistics do not bear this out and you have the evident prejudice behind the self-fulfilling, profilling prophecy that arrests innocent men for D.V. to make statistics that get more money to arrest more innocent men, ad infinitum. Phamplets that LAPD has given out informing about domestic violence list the batterer in male nouns and pronouns over thirty times, the victim always in female nouns and pronouns (further evidence of the hate crime of domestic violence. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is the biggest lie on the streets of L.A. Clearly being of the correct gender (female) is an excuse. Who paid for this bumper sticker (THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE)? This appears to be a fraudulent waste of tax payers dollars. To be truthful every LAPD officer should put another bumper sticker on his/her car over the top of this one. It should say, SCAM!

Tonight on Fox News I was listening to "The Factor," and heard Mr. Bill Oreilly call for a VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN ACT so I e-mailed him. As much as my emotions wanted to go along with his "call to arms" after the shocking abduction, molestation, and brutal murder of a little Southern California girl,
I felt compelled to pointed out that our constitution states that: "all people are created equal, and entitled to LIFE, liberty, etc., and that all people are entitled to equal justice under the law and not just special interest groups." I told him that his, "self righteous chivalry sickened me."
I further stated, "We already have a VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT. If your act passes what's next a VIOLENCE AGAINST DOGS AND CATS ACT?" "Perhaps," I informed him, "after we pass a VIOLENCE AGAINST WORMS ACT we can get around to passing an act to protect the #1 victims of violent crime through a VIOLENCE AGAINST MEN ACT."
I'm not holding my breath waiting for his reply, and I suspect that if he does reply it will be excoriatingly harsh, everbody knows that men seeking justice in our society are just a big target that reads "fair game/open season/abuse me."
Sincerely, Ray
