NOW Spinoff Wants 9/11 Money

News thrudd sent in this Fox News story and writes "A women's rights group is demanding a share of the $11 billion in federal disaster relief for the 9/11 terror attacks, saying it wants the money for affirmative action programs to help more women break into traditionally male fields like firefighting, construction and policing." Perhaps Wendy's recent article on this is drawing others at Fox to report on the issue?

So, women are a minority in firefighting. That's NOT surprising news to me. i don't know why the genfems can't relax and have men get the spotlight once in a while.
"Female men's activist" is not an oxymoron.

To LadyRivka:

I agree. The NOW feminists seem to think that women need to be taught to find hazardous jobs attractive. I suspect that affirmative action really means lowered entry and qualification standards for women -- just what's occurred with women in the military.
The article trots out the old pay gap claim without mentioning the reasons for the gap, such as differences in occupational choice, consecutive years on the job, experience, hours worked, willingness to work unpopular shifts or in isolated locations, etc, etc.

Does anyone know if there are efforts to establish affirmative action programs to increase male participation in nursing, elementary school teaching, social work, etc.

It's not so much the audacity of NOW that amazes me, it's the fact that their wishes are being seriously considered. This is farcical.

I saw a show a few years ago (on CBCNEWS I think), about how [gender] feminists wanted to lower the tests for women to be forest firefighters. The few women that already had these jobs had one thing to say: "If these women get their way, women will loose any and all respect that we've rightfully earned, and the men will look down at us." I think [gender] feminists need to pay attention to that comment, but heaven forbed they acctually do something reasonable.

This lunatic fringe group is in New York, my neck of the woods ;). Let's give them enough rope to fashion the daintiest nooses. Anyone who remembers the devastation of September 11th would be appalled at this gender extortion scheme, but these extremists can't help themselves--even if they know deep down they are attempting to deprive the rightful recipients of their due. They're their own worst enemy at this point, and we should encourage them to turn up the volume on their hysterical demands.

That would be great, Mars, but how do we get the mainstream to cover it? Sean Hannity (WABC-AM) won't even cover it, and according to HILLARY!, he's ultra-right-wing conservative talk radio.

Although, Sean is now national. If we had enough folks write to him and ask him to cover it, he just might.

Can we get some support on this, folks? Since Glen was just on KABC, one of the stations that carries Sean, perhaps Sean would invite Glen to talk on this topic on such a show.

Contact Sean through his producer, James, at James.Grisham@abc.com
