Murdering Moms (Score:1) by Luek on Wednesday January 09, @11:36AM EST (#1) (User #358 Info) Well it seems that having the "blues" is an acceptable defense for killing your kids; if you are female that is. A man would have been skinned alive for doing such a horrible thing. Yeah, there is a double standard. Not to be out done by this murdering mom in Britain our own Andrea Yates is more than likely going to avoid the death penalty in a plea bargain agreement. This means she will be given life in prison but of course that just means she will be out and about within 10 years. And if Oprah is still doing her blabber show then Andrea will probably be interviewed by her and promote her new runaway bestseller book about post partum depression and how women are hideously short changed by the misogynic male dominated medical and judicial systems.

The woman murdered her child, and nothing happened to her! And like Luek said, a man would've been skinned alive for doing anything closely resembling this kind of atrocity, and here we have two separate stories in a row of women getting away scot free with murder. Here's a crazy idea: enact a law that says if women are suffering from postpartum depression, then they are not allowed to handle children without direct supervision from the father or another caretaker. I know that such a law would never get passed in a million years, seeing as how it involves "common sense," but still, I can dream, can't I? "Stereotypes are devices that save a biased person the trouble of learning."
