Foreskins Used in Burn Bandages
posted by Scott on Wednesday November 07, @01:19PM
from the circumcision dept.
Circumcision Neil Steyskal pointed me to this UK Daily Telegraph article which mentions a new bandage that can be used to speed up the healing process for burn victims. The miracle material the bandage is made of?: foreskins from circumcised infants.

Half Full or Half Empty

Here are my thoughts on this procedure:

1) Although I believe most cirumcision to be unnecessary genital mutilation and abuse of a helpless infant, it's good that some medical good can come out of people who have practiced it out of their own ignorance and tradition.

2) There is a dark, dark side of me which believes that in light of this information doctors may soon advocate male circumcision as "medically necessary" for their own gain: namely, offering the "service" of use of infant foreskins for burn patients. They'll be sacrificing a part of an infant (without his consent because he's too young to give it) for the "greater good."

Perhaps they could call it the Baby Draft.

great find, scott

this kinda shit is why i stopped writing fiction -- the weirdmobile of everyday reality moots it

can there be a more profound statement of the true relationship of the male to the female than this?

the torture of defenseless baby boys heals the face of a girl

their misery -- coerced -- permits her painlessness

and the princess from her trance? – it is the blood of ten million heroes that wakes her – if you listen hard you can hear them screaming

god help us if the whole universe is this way -- no wonder the gnostics ran to their caves and washed their hands of the planet

if you’ve ever worked with burn patients, you understand the agony they endure, especially during debridement and grafts

i can’t find it in me to begrudge this girl, or any other person, a sparing of such trauma

but who will guard the sons of the nation?

circumcision done in ignorance is no offense, because we’re all ignorant -- but circumcision done for profit, or for reasons of occult power and control – that is a terrible transgression against the weak

in this i am very much struggling with my rage, and my urge to retribution, even though i know that vengeance is not mine to take

i’m trying hard, very hard

in the meantime, to those who raise the knife knowingly to baby boys: you see me coming, you better run

Actually, it was Neil's find - he's done a great job sending in stories.

Ask For Donations

Ya know, if someone was to ask me to donate my foreskin, while I am still alive, I might well do it especially if I knew it would help a burn victim. But stealing it before I was too young to decide, and compromising my sex life in the balance, is not an option. Does it ever occur to these people that, if they waited until I was full-grown instead of cutting while I was an infant, they would get much more usable tissue?

just guessing, but i suspect that the foreskins of infants have physical properties, such as cellular elasticity, that render them (oops)especially useful in this medical context
think that's bad?

I was just told today that women should be *loudly encouraging* circumcision, because it makes the penis cleaner and more pleasant for them...
