Culture of Dating Spreads to the Internet

Humor This humorous column in the Nashville Scene points out that Internet dating services are now taking advantage of men's wallets in the same way women have been doing for years: shell out loads of cash, potentially get some company. Note the final paragraph of the column, as it has the most relevance to the men's movement.

I've heard there are personals websites out there that charge nothing or a discounted fee to women, while men pay full price. However, Match.com isn't one of them. Women have to pay to be members and respond to ads too, same price as the guys. Go check it out.

This article makes some decent, valid points, but the author has his facts regarding Match.com's membership policies all wrong.

For those who are interested, there are also a ton of completely free personal ad services such as the ones on Yahoo. There's no good reason for anyone to pay a membership fee to Match.com or any other personals site. I was a member once, and my opinion is that they don't offer anything special enough to justify the fee. In fact, I encountered the exact same people there that I'd encountered for free over on Yahoo.

The author most certainly does NOT have his facts on match.com's pricing all wrong. He states that he must pay $25 to send an e-mail to a match.com member. That's true. Go to match.com and see for yourself. He doesn't say ONLY MEN have to pay it, he is just unwilling to pay it himself.

Please read more carefully.
