Budweiser's Reply Regarding "Good Dog" Bud Light Ad

Hi fellow MRAs. I recently posted a story about a Bud Light commercial, in which a man is viciously assaulted where it hurts most by a dog. I'm happy to say that the only place this ad can now be viewed is YouTube. Here's what Budweiser had to say:

"Dear Evan,

Thank you for responding to Anheuser-Busch. We apologize if your question was not answered, and also because there seems to be some confusion surrounding the ad.

For starters – no, the ad is no longer being aired. It actually has not appeared on television for a few years now, and the YouTube version was posted online without our company’s permission. This is typical of most videos on sharing sites, an in addition to not being able to control posters’ actions, we also cannot control the information they provide along with the spot.

If you have concerns about this ad appearing on YouTube, we encourage you to contact the poster directly.

Again, Evan, thank you for contacting us. Please let us know if you have additional comments or questions.

We can all take a nice sigh of relief knowing that this commercial will never air again. I was happy to hear this news, and I replied accordingly:

"Thank you very much for your reply. It was a lot more helpful than the last one I received.

I'm happy to hear that your advertising team came to their senses and realized that the ad is offensive. I came across the ad when I went on YouTube, looking for this year's Superbowl ads. I mistook the ad as one of your recent ones. I understand that you're not able to control what goes on YouTube; and I want you to know that I'm not upset that it's on YouTube. I was upset when I saw it because I thought it was still running.

There is a terrible plethora of companies out there that still use male bashing in an attempt to sell products. I just thought that if it was still running, I would inform you that ads like the one we're discussing ultimately lose as many customers as they gain, as I'm not the only one who finds ads like this offensive and denigrating.

You may recall a similar ad that was made in 2002 for Progressive Insurance, in which an angry woman, through a voodoo doll, sexually abuses her ex-boyfriend, by using pliers on his genitals. This ad was not well-received, and lost the company many customers and potential customers. Eventually, they ran another commercial with the pliers scene cut out, because they lost customers and received many complaints.

That being said, I would like to say that your ads have improved dramatically since the one we're discussing was made. Your recent advertisements for Bud Light are not only male-friendly, but they're really funny. I saw the ones that were made for the Superbowl this year, and I laughed at all of them. Please continue making clever, humourous, nonviolent(slapstick violence is okay, as long as it doesn't go overboard i.e. genital abuse) ads. As long as your ads continue following this trend, I will continue to purchase your products.

Thank You For Hearing Your Customer's Concerns

Sincerely,
Evan Springler"

There you have it. If you wanna throw back a Bud Light now, feel free to. Apparently, this company has realized the error of its ways. I would also like to apologize for the misunderstanding I caused amonsgst us. I thought this ad was a recent one. I'm happy to say that it is now nothing more than a memory. As Stewie on Family Guy would say "Victory is mine!"

They said in their letter, "..the ad is no longer being aired. It actually has not appeared on television for a few years now.."

That just means they used to show it, and now they don't. So what? Who knows why they quit showing it - probably because it ran for a while, then they changed to a new ad. Just like we don't see the Marlboro guy on his motorcycle anymore.

I don't mean to put a damper on things, but companies come up with new ads all the time.

They don't show or make ads like this anymore. I consider that a victory.
