Tell Reviews and Everyone Else What You Think About TEETH

TEETH opens this weekend, and several critics seem to be relishing the male-genital-mutilation revenge story. I think it would be beneficial to hit these people hard and let them know what we think. Below are some reviews (where you might be able to leave a comment and/or send a letter to the editor), and where it was available I've included the reviewer's e-mail address.

Its been in about four theatres around the country and grossed about $30,000. I suspect with some Hollywood "buzz" it will probably make it to a few more theatres. The reviews have constantly been favorable. Its rated R and not NC17 because it only deals with male genital mutilation. Apparently some feel this is funny.

I saw the movie last week on a boot-leg DVD. [it should have been NC17] The mutilation was disturbing enough, but maybe more disgusting is the result of the severed genitals.

The portrayal that all men are rapists is a common theme throughout this movie. You see date rape, the use of date rape drugs, and the "evil" guy who's only goal is to have sex with virgins. You'll also see the fallacy that men only have sex to brag to their friends in the locker room.

Than you have sadistic humor. After one of the mutilation scenes her father asks her if she's hungry. Her response: "No thank you, I've already had a bite"

You don't see her vagina, but one scene shows a broken tooth hit the floor. Believe it or not, there's relatively no male nudity. You'll only see prosthetic genitals. I guess that's a method to avoid the NC17 rating. I guess special effects don't count as nudity. Take it from me, the special effects could have been done by a seventh grader from the audio/visual club.

During the ending credits, more attempted humor. "No Men Were Hurt During The Filming Of This Movie" No disclaimer in regards to misandry.

Teeth has also set up a "mock' myspace account for the lead actress. Under the category Heroe, Eileen Wuornos is listed.

I posted comments on all of those sites. And I emailed Todd mccarthy. That reminds me I should also check out that other site with the "Weixler treads tricky ground" review. I left a few comments on there, and got into an argument with a couple people, but I think it's safe to say I won.

Mention the movie teeth, and then transition the discussion to you giving him a piece of paper with a few websites that are discussing it!!

I was at university the year that the classic and quite funny porn flick "Deep Throat" was released. (We screened it in a class about the feminist redemption of the erotic.... attendance was never a problem in this course.)

The premise was that Linda Lovelace had discovered that her clitoris was in her throat, and so she actually received pleasure from her oral antics.

Now in the post-feminist era, we have "Teeth," which denies women both pleasure and femininity while emasculating men.

Movies like this are windows into Fem-America's souless sexless moralism...

I wrote a blog knocking the movie down a couple notches. I figured it was well overdue after reading some of the ridiculous praise the film is getting. It's at No Feminazis: http://www.wine-cellar.com/mrreality

Enjoy. BTW, anthony, are all the victims in the movie white males? I'm willing to bet $100 that that's the case. They would never get away with showing castration happen to anybody else.

I wander what the feminist raunch culture genre thinks about this???

In her book “Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture,” author Ariel Levy makes some depressing discoveries about what the ideal of the "empowered" woman has been reduced to, and why strippers and "adult actresses" -- porn stars -- have been adopted as role models. The key conclusion is that it doesn't really have anything to do with sex, per se. Levy quotes Paris Hilton's remark, "my boyfriends say I'm sexy but not sexual." In other words, "being hot" is a pose, an act, a tool, and entirely divorced from either physical pleasure or romantic love. Levy quotes one adult woman who cannot understand why she cannot bring herself to have sex with a man to whom she's not attracted, and a teenaged girl who can't grasp how a woman can "get the guy" without dressing (and acting) like a "ho."

(From a reader’s review on amazon.com)

“Teeth” may be less about the feminist assault on masculinity than it is about the conflicted notions of post-feminist raunch culture sexuality that today’s young women (and men)experience. At one level, “Teeth” seems to be asking whether it is possible for women to be desired, feminine, and powerful … without also emasculating men.

Basically, it's a feminist parable.

That lady in "The Story of O." She would have had a much better outcome if her vagina had had teeth, no?

As of 1/30 ranked # 43 at the Box Office

Weekend Gross: $66,338

Gross Rlse Cumulative: $113,994

Wks of release: 2

Theaters: 16

Teeth was originally released in only 4 theatres. This total has increased after this weekend. The numbers should increase with every passing weekend. The director stated the movie will open in more theatres in early February. Some major barriers still exist.

Roadside Attractions doesn't have anywhere near the Hollywood clout of the "Big Boys" [ie: 20th Century Fox, Universal, or Paramount] Without that clout and money it becomes very difficult for Roadside to get Teeth into more than just a handful of theatres. They just don't have the cash to do a national advertising campaign. Even if they did have the money I wonder how many major TV networks would even advertise a movie with a very disturbing theme. This could change if it immediately become a cult classic. If the demand exists this movie could surprise some people with a decent Hollywood Gross. In my opinion, its a DVD movie. As far as I know Roadside was the only company interested in picking up the film.

I always expected that the producers of "Teeth" were assuming they would make their profits in DVD sales to rental franchises like Family Video & Blockbuster.

It's too expensive for a small outfit to distribute actual film prints to theatres when you can knock out DVD's for a couple of bucks.

I think the international sales will be especially strong in the Muslim countries, where the idea of vagina dentata is not just a metaphor for feminism.

I know a lot of you disagree with this idea, but I plan on writing a movie which is the inverted version of this. The protaganist will discover that he has quills on his penis and that his sperm work like acid against women.

It will basically be a commentary on how men and male sexuality are always unjustly demonized in movies and the media and how people look the other way regarding sexual violence against men. It will also expose how there's many female offenders who are never brought to justice, be it child molesters, women who impregnate themselves (by saving their boyfriend's semen), women who falsely accuse men of rape, or women who are violent against men and never chastized. I suppose the protaganist in this film would be the hero that would break Dawn O'Keefe's teeth.

Of course, I'm going to wait until after You Should Know Better is released to release "Quills". Something tells me that movie is going to be a hit, thus I'll be able to gain more exposure for "Quills". I know it sounds horrifically offensive; that's the point. I'm going to try to set a trap for misandrist hyprocrites. Also, I've decided that if I make any money from the abomination, I'll give it to charity. I just don't care about the money. It's the message I care about.

I can see the movie poster for it now. The protaganist is sitting at his desk, looking at a playboy, holding a gun pointed up above his crotch. The poster will read "For decades male sexuality has been under attack. This summer, it fights back."
