Nevada Lawyer Fights Sex Discrimination in Gyms

An article in the New York Times discusses a Nevada lawyer's fighting against a gym who offered his wife a better price on a membership based solely on her gender. Various people interviewed by the reporter said that this sort of gender discrimination in favor of women is "[...] pretty much accepted [...]" and "a business decision by individual businesses and they ought to be left free to do that."

From the article:
"Imagine a whites-only country club or whites-get-in-free deal or something like that," said Mr. Phillips, 45, who has homes in Nevada and California.

How's this for an easy protest idea: A group of men gets together and dresses in (blatantly obvious) drag. Then the group goes to a 'ladies night' club, sits down and orders up the free or discount drinks, or goes to one of these athletic clubs and attempts to sign up for the free year deal etc... Some options if challenged:

1. The men can claim they are transgendered and now living as women and again demand service.
2. The men can video their experience and post it on youtube or sell it to one of the talk shows who might like to explore the issue.
3. The men can pull out signs stating how the club or bar discriminates against men and picket the place.

If the TV news crews were tipped off in advance that would be an interesting way to get some publicity on the issue too.

(Blacks - crossed out)
(Women - crossed out)

No many how many dozens of times I've seen it, it astonishes me anew each time.

"a business decision by individual businesses and they ought to be left free to do that"

So, I assume we can make business decisions based on race, religion, ethnic group..wait a minute, they're not allowed to ask those questions on the application!

I'd rather not be seen on TV wearing stockings, myself. Maybe we can hire some actual drag queen performers, or "she-males" (transgendered people), to do it. If we pay them enough, they should go along with it. Also what about a man who has been castrated due to an injury or something? Like Wayne Bobbitt..could he have gotten free drinks?

I know I'm being somewhat silly here, but I really do think that a group of guys could get together, dress as women, and claim they were transgendered..then try to get lady's night drinks. After all, transgendered people have actually been "converted", they are now women.
