"In Praise Of Skinned Knees And Grubby Faces"

In Praise Of Skinned Knees And Grubby Faces
Excerpt:

'When I was a teacher, I asked my head of department why every textbook seemed to have a girl achieving her dream of being a carpenter while the boys were morons. She replied that boys had had it their own way for too long, and now it was the girls' turn. Ouch.'

Her definition of equality: two "wrongs" make I right. (I put the word wrong in quotes, because it is a questionable idea that boys have "had it their way" at any time).

Summary doesn't say it, but this is an article by the author of the "Dangerous Book For Boys" on why he wrote it.

The dark side of masculinity may involve gangs and aggression, but there's another side -- self-discipline, wry humor and quiet determination. I really thought I was the only one who cared about it, but I've found many thousands who care just as much.

I know there are women who can lift heavier weights than I can, but on the whole, boys are more interested in the use of urine as secret ink than girls are. We wanted to write a book that celebrated boys -- with all their differences and geeky love of knowledge, skills and stories. There just isn't anything wrong with trying to do that.

hear, hear.

This book is great, especially after the countless you-go-girl movies, books, television shows, soap operas, and entire tv channels that are out there to promote the essence of womanhood. It's only fair that boys can have a book or two.

Ax, I concur. If I were him, I would have reported her to the school board. That comment she made seemed tainted with specks of boy-hating sexism. I applaud "The Dangerous Book for Boys." Those who disapprove of the title simply because it has "boys" in it are ridiculously paranoid. With all the anti-male propaganda being vomitted into society these days, this book is a relief ... and very much due. Kudos to the boys! They needed someone to rescue them from the psychological torture they've been subjected to for the past couple of decades.

You know, you may have a point. I guess their essence is spoiled, entitled, rude, whiney, irresponsible, lazy, complaining, biased, pretend-like-men-are-dangerous-and-disgusting; and with lower I.Q.'s than men to boot. That's how they look in those shows to me.
