Why fathers leave

Article here. Excerpt:

"Most fathers don’t want to leave their children. They love their kids and want to be engaged in every aspect of their lives. Men hurt and feel pain when they cannot be with their kids. To suggest otherwise is not only insulting to men, it’s a bold-faced lie.

Society routinely degrades fathers. Men are typically depicted by Hollywood as inadequate and useless beings who are nothing more than comedic props."

The author is a reverend, so I am not surprised, but still, appealing to religious beliefs about the order of things doesn't work on me. Some comments he makes do seem to be fully "non-sectarian", but generally authors lose me when they start talking about a divine order to things like family relationships. That piece aside, he makes some very good points here, and does so with little fanfare. Including into the discussion the treatment of men by their spouses is unusual and is a major missing piece of the debate.

...religion will not save men, facts, morals and integrity will. In my opinion some religious beliefs carry a certain amount of outdated chivalry; like the man is the provider, etc, etc. I don't agree with that. Women need to have a damn job. I never look down on another person because of their religious beliefs though I say if your religious beliefs makes you a better person, so be it. I myself am not religious though.

It is true that the author makes some good points, but here's the statement that worries me:
"There's an order to life: God in Christ, Christ in man, man over woman, and woman over children. When this order is broken or violated you have 'hell' on earth."

"man over woman"..statements like that can be such a turn-off to some people (probably _most_ people, including myself), they will discount everything read up until that point and stop reading right there. I'm sure that quotes of articles like these will endear any guests looking over our site...right..about as much so as all the rowdy arguments and trolling that have been going on here lately.
