16-YO Girl Arrested for Sexually Abusing 10-YO Girl

My initial reaction, is surprise over the fact that the police released the offender's name, since she is a minor. They also released her address, probably so that people sympathetic to her "plight" ("Oh God, what man would make a girl do such a thing?.."), can hold a candlelight vigil outside her house.

AWA removed the barriers that once existed to protect minors from being labeled sexual predators. There is no longer a minimum age in the United States to be publicly humiliated and added to the national sex offender registry under AWA.

On a personal note, I really like Watertown. My ex-finace and I used to go there quite frequently and make a day of it back when I lived in the Ottawa area. Nice town.

I bet she plays the "I was sexually abused" card.... although statistically most sexually abused children who grow up to sexually abuse tend to target children of the same gender as their abuser....

This would have been overlooked in any previous generation as more or less harmless experimentation of youth that required a stern talking - to both parties involved - about appropriate behavior and not a criminal trial. I'm not sure previous generations were wrong there.

I doubt very highly that any 16 year old regardless of gender will grow up to be a child molester as a result of something like this provided they get a few lessons in maturity and some help with whatever issue is causing them to act out this way.

We really don't need 16 year olds on sex offender registries when the average 16 year old is a bumbling idiot when it comes to sex and should be expected to make a few mistakes.

The 10 year old needs some help from her family putting this in perspective but I am sure she can grow up without any lasting emotional scars and even forgive and reconcile with her former babysitter if it was a babysitter that the girl had a good bond with and liked in the first place. They are both kids and should be treated like kids.

Putting this 10 year old girl in the same category as a 10 year old that has been horrifically abused at the hands of an adult could end up doing her allot more harm in the long run then what actually did happen.

Sometimes cooler heads need to prevail and issues that aren't that big need not get blown astronomically out of proportion (something the justice system/media is really good at doing)

More work for the state/county paid therapists and psychologists.

...and probation officers and state shrinks are like tow peas in a pod - you simply do not find one without the other right beside (which of course creates a whole set of problems with the credibility of the State Shrinks since their pay depends directly on the justice systems goals) . So probations officers will get plenty of work out of this girl.

Though you're right about prison guards as I simply can't imagine this girl doing one single day in a youth detention facility. Nor do I think that would help anything in this situation. I don't really think the legal system is needed here at all as this situation could be solved with guidance and placing things in appropriate perspectives by caring families. Though since the States objective is the complete destruction of such families I guess there is quickly becoming no alternative to State intervention in such cases.

A self fulfilling prophecy that sexual experiences in youth no matter the circumstances are invariably damaging because even when they may not cause lasting damage the State will step in to ensure that whoever the victim is they are damaged and handed off to State councilors who will make sure they remain damaged perpetually through their 'treatment'. Got to create new jobs somehow no that manufacturing and other 'male' jobs are fleeing the Western nations like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Eventually, if you do not work for the State you will be product that maintains everyone else's employment - enemies of the State and prisoners of it.
