More on Mothers-in-Prison

Watch it here on cnn.com, again from Anderson Cooper. So much sympathy... these women are in jail and they live in a giant nursery with their kids. They have kids, or commit crimes while pregnant, and they are "punished" by being given a great environment to raise their kids nearly 24/7. Meanwhile, how are the fathers of these children treated if in prison for the same thing?

Ok, first let me say, I do think that children need their parents and that criminals are for the most part people who have not had many other choices in life and come from poor economic circumstances. I am not mister lock 'em up and throw away the key. I am all for every measure to help people change their lives and get a second chance if they truly want one.

The thing that makes me sick here though is the blatant sexism just oozing from that video. NOT ONE MENTION OF ANY OF THE CRIMES THAT PUT THOSE WOMEN IN PRISON.

They picked a young black woman to interview. Gee, I wonder why? Couldn't be that people would immediately have a 2pac "Dear Mamma" reaction and have sympathy for her. 'Even as a crack feen momma, you always was a black queen momma'

Never seen a fluff piece like that for men in prison. Heck, even the documentaries I've seen on prison rape in men's prisons were severely lacking in sympathy for the victims.

Yeah, all women are in prison cause they got hooked on drugs. Well, there may be some truth to that since we absolutely refuse to punish women who rape children, torture children, and even kill them. And husband abuse and even murder is practically a state sanctioned legal right for all women in America so we sure aren't putting many of them in prison.

So maybe the only offense a women can go to jail for these days is a drug offence.
