Indian Govt To Prepare Gender Oriented Budget

Mangesh writes "The highlights of the latest budget presented to Parliament are 1. Women pay Rs. 2,500 less tax on their income, 2. All govt departments required to prepare `gender budgets' which means they should allocate part of their planned fund outlay specifically for the benefit of women, 3. In some Indian states, women pay less stamp duty on property purchase than what men pay (in Delhi, it's 6% & 8%). The Finance Minister recommends the same model to other states as well.

The Times of India editorial is quite supportive of these `affirmative action' measures."
