Mom gets probation in hot-car death

Story here. Excerpt:

'FARMINGTON - The day Kamilyn Kartchner Hadley caused the death of her infant son by leaving him outside in an oven-like car, the 31-year-old Clearfield woman had a lot on her mind.

Her family had been displaced from their home by a gas leak, her husband was starting a new job, and Hadley's focus was on her work as a multilevel marketer when she visited an associate and forgot about her child, said 2nd District Judge Michael Allphin.'

Any excuse will do.

To be fair, a man last year also got off (I believe he was a math professor if I remember correctly). This death-by-hot-car situation is one of those things that as far as I can tell, are rarely prosecuted. If I were on the grand jury, I doubt I could either: the so-called perpetrator punished her/him-self forever via the accidental killing of his/her child. I know it is hard to imagine that one could forget your child in the car, but we are all leading far busier lives these days. I believe holding one accountable for one's actions, but in this case...when it is such a blatant accident, I believe that the punishment is dispensed the moment the child is found dead...no time in prison will ever make a bit of difference (and the threat of prison won't make a parent any more or less vigilant when it comes to real accidents such as these). As they say, shit happens...no matter how horrible.

Forgetting the double standards (and yes I've seen it go both ways), I don't buy the "I was distracted" "I forgot" "I was too busy" pissy excuses.
A child is dead.
Period.
End of discussion... in anybodys book.
That's homicide.
Period.
End of discussion... in my book.
Male, female, hermaphrodite, glbts or otherwise... by action or inaction they caused a child to die a slow painful death (unlike many smaller mammals, we don't aestivate) by heat stroke leading to heart failure. I won't pretend to guess if any of you comprehend what happens in a persons body when they're cooked to death but I quite assure you it isn't 'humane'.
I'll spare you the graphic description.
No excuse.
No excuses.

End of discussion in my book.
