Post-Father's Day slap - the Bridget Marks case

Hunchback writes "By now everyone should be aware of the Bridget Marks case, championed by the NY Daily News. This latest insult to falsely accused fathers everywhere has to be seen to be believed. The authors' book should be titled "Why Women are Running Family Court." (Letters to the Daily News should be under 60 words--written letters with name, address, and daytime phone seem to have a better chance of publication than e-letters.)"

NYTimes.com: Guess Who's Holding the Briefcase

I could hardly believe my eyes, but there it is in black and white. The New York Times itself has published this article in its Week In Review section, an article which appears to unabashedly sympathize with the plight of the "modern" married man.

Happy Father's Day!

2004 Men's Rights Congress, Day Two: Great Big Success!!

The second and final day of the 2004 Men's Rights Congress concluded today as a big success. With upwards of 50 attendees and a great list of speakers, along with a great deal of enthusiasm and a spirit of cooperation and commonness of cause, the Conference Day ended too soon.

Attendees left with a strong sense that this Congress was the start of something great. We who were part of its organization and execution certainly hope so! If you were there, you know what I mean, and thank you for attending. If not, well, you missed a great conference! :) Hope to see you next year in any case!

Oh yeah....pictures coming soon!

2004 Men's Congress Day One: Big Success!!

I am very glad to announce that Day One of the 2004 Men's Rights Congress was a big success!! Activists from all over the country converged at a church near Capitol Hill to organize and depart for "Lobby Day on the Hill". I can't tell you the great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that came just from going directly to the seat of legislation and making our case to our senators and Congressmen, or their staffers. Following that, participants made signs and protested in front of the Supreme Court, talking to passers-by, handing out leaflets, and posing for photos taken by tourists and passing media people. From there, we moved on to the Capitol lawn to join fellow protesters for photo ops and to make our presence known there as well.

It was a long but very satisfying day. We remained stolidly undaunted in the face of the heat and humidity. :) We all look forward to tomorrow for the second day of the Congress at the Carnegie Endowment for Peace building.

Oh yes - photos coming soon!

All men are voles..?

Anonymous User writes "

Apparently scientists have discovered a gene that makes voles faithful and ends their natural promiscuity. I just love the comments about 'how women may want to implant this in their men'..."

Does 'Victim Status' justify crime?

CJ writes " A woman bites off her boyfriend's tongue and perhaps swallows it because he squeezed her a bit too tight while kissing. The AP news story granted her "victim status" on her account alone, which as usual is an odd twist of logic aimed at justifying violent female behavior based upon her previous experience with men. Media’s constant justification of violent female behavior seems to be the norm today and it softens the impact of violent female behavior, and denigrates men in the process. This was another "odds and ends" new item."

It's No Joke: TV Dads Get Short Shrift

Rand T. writes ""Dads, you see, are the last subculture in America whom it is permissible to bash and malign with impunity. They have no lobby whose sole task it is to protect their honor. You can depict dads as stumbling, bumbling doofs all you want and receive not a single shred of flak for it. "

IWF - A Supporter of Fatherhood

Anonymous User writes "Granted, the IWF has been an advocate for traditional fatherhood and for marriage - they should be lauded for this. But look at their "Father's Day" page:

here

Read the first listed article, "Meet Today's Dad: A Model to Avoid." Grrr..."

Hmmm. I dunno about you, but I'm starting to get the feeling the IWF values the nearest man's uses more than his characteristics. For independant women, they sure do glorify the traditional man, but not the traditional woman? if there was ever going to be a universal slogan for this kind of thing, it would have to be "No reciprocity? no way!" Or perhaps "You can't have it both ways baybee!" as a wise man once said.

Woman abandons baby in bar parking lot, isn't charged

At this point I wouldn't have kids to save my own bloody life. Look at this will you. Apparently, in CA anyway, a mother can abandon a baby anyplace and as long as she calls for pick-up, it's OK. If a man did that, he'd be toast.

Useful DV Stats in California

Marc writes "Aside from all the randomized surveys showing that men and women initiate DV at the same rates (like in Fiebert's bibliography here and Linda Kelly's law review journal in PDF format), sometimes it is also very useful to cite local and state police reports and other "archival" data in one's advocacy for male victims in civil rights lawsuits, lobbying or other advocacy. Below are some California stats from an online State of California source that can be very useful in this regard. Marc
