"Men's Habits, Not Biology, Cause Early Death"

Rand T. writes "Quote: "Last week saw two new developments in the emerging men's health movement: the debut of a peer-reviewed scientific journal, The Journal of Men's Health and Gender, and what sponsors say is the first men's health conference convened in the USA."

One in 75 US men in jail

Yahoo! News finally comes out with something that desperately needs revealing. The gulag system of criminalizing and warehousing men seems to be getting more and more efficient as time goes on. Read about it. The article actually notes the huge disparity in incarceration numbers for men and women as well. Great start, Yahoo!, keep it up!

Major Seattle Station Spreads Misandry

seattleshark writes "KomoTV, a Seattle ABC local newstation, has posted an extraordinarily misandric report on their website. http://www.komotv.com/stories/31443.htm. Here’s an excerpt: “Of the teens aged 15 to 19 who are murdered each year in this country, a third are killed by their boyfriends.” Need more? Here: “Forty percent of students aged 14 to 17 say they know someone their age who has been hit by a boyfriend.” The end of the article offers the following: “For more information on teen domestic violence go to www.loveisnotabuse.com and click on "Just for teens." Please make your displeasure visible by writing the reporter: AprilZ@komotv.com. Oh, and it's time to add Liz Clairborne to the list of companies to boycott!"

Glenn Sacks on F4J

Anon user writes "Columnist Glenn Sacks defends the English Fathers' Rights group Fathers 4 Justice in his latest column here. While F4J has received criticism for its actions, Sacks points out that "most protesters have court-ordered visitation with their children but cannot get English courts to enforce those rights. Their protests have broken the law, but have done so only in an effort to get the English government to enforce the law."

Honda Pilot ad: "My husband was raised by wolves"

mens_issues writes "Honda has an annoying ad for its Pilot SUV where a wife states
that "My husband was raised by wolves." The first time I saw this
was on Super Bowl Sunday (the day of the infamous Janet Jackson
incident at half-time). It showed the husband looking all
dishevelled while licking a plate like a dog, drinking straight from
the water cooler at work, and chasing a Frisbee (thrown by his son)
into a stream.

More Women, More Underaged Boys

Anonymous User writes "Hey, I thought men were the ones who had to be looked after when it came to interacting with teens? At least that`s what society tells us. A New Brighton woman was arrested on accusations that she performed sex acts on a 13-year-old friend of her son and provided pornographic materials to other boys. In another case, an angry judge is holding Rebecca Burden in jail until she comes up with $100,000 for a full-cash bond. The 27-year-old Bullitt County woman is accused of having sex with two 15-year-old boys."

Thomas writing now. It's important to keep these cases in the open to try to wear thin the feminist notion that women are always innocent or even victims. Here's a commentary by K.C. Wilson on that issue.

The MALE Vote

frank h writes "You won't actually read the New York Times saying that the male vote is swinging the election, but if you read between the lines here, you'll see. Of course, the pollsters and politicos won't say it out loud because they WANT the women to have the power, or at least think they do, and they don't want the politicians actually DOING anything to get the male vote, like maybe standing up to the feminist minority. But it's there, guys. It's there."

Thomas writing now. This article is actually about the white male vote.

Carpitcher Loses Appeal

The_Beedle writes "Aleck J. Carpitcher, sentenced to 38 years for molesting an 11 year old girl, has lost his appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court. Carpitchers accuser recanted her testimony nine months after he was convicted in 1999. There was no physical or corroborative evidence. This appeal challenged a Virginia law prohibiting introduction of new evidence more than 21 days after conviction.
Roanoke Times Story

There was a Men's Activism story two years ago about this, before the appeal: Men's Activism Thread from 2002

And of course, it made News of the Weird this week: Fourth Bullet under 'Can't Possibly be True'"

Women charged with dog-drowning, false reporting

Another example of a counter-stereotype. Won't see this story beyond local news: Woman Drowns Boyfriend's Little Dachshund and 2 women charged in dog killing

I am amazed it made it that far, really.

Murder Over a Sexual Harassment Suit?

Anonymous User writes "Something must have gone terribly wrong with somebody . . . In Kentucky, a female worker was shot and killed after filing a sexual harassment suit against a male co-worker. She was going to testify two days later. The male co-worker, whom some said had an interest in the woman, was suspected. A female who had been in a relationship with the victim was also suspected (she had threatened the victim in retaliation for a previous threat.) However, she said she was sick in bed at the time and was not responsible for the murder. In the end, the male worker was found not guilty because proof was lacking and some witnesses were questionable. There is a timeline of articles on the case to see."

Prison Abuse Blamed on "Gender Inequalities" in Military

mens_issues writes "OK, so here's the reason for the prisoner abuse in Iraq: it was
women soldiers trying to fit in with the men. See this insightful
article
courtesy of ABCNews.com. Notice that the article doesn't mention the inequality in the number of deaths suffered by men in the military."

Special Restrictions for Male Rescue Volunteers

An Anonymous User writes, "The Orange County Rescue Mission has an application packet which individuals can use to apply as volunteers [file is in PDF format.] (View application as HTML.) This packet has some restrictions whereby male volunteers are prohibited from holding female children. Also, male volunteers may not meet with a client when the door is closed without a female present. Notice that these restrictions are specific to the male gender. Likely, it is because abusers are usually men (or are usually thought to be men) that these restrictions exist. Protecting children from abuse is important, but how effective are restrictions like these? (Perhaps they just guard against false accusations.) Or are there better methods that minimize discrimination?" See the Read More section for additional commentary.

UK Petition on Contact Orders

ReformEightyNine writes ""We, the undersigned, ask the Government to recognise the flouting of contact orders to be an act of harassment against the non-resident parent under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. Further that contact orders be made with notice that denial of contact will be met with either non-punitive or punitive action or both." This is a genuine opportunity to lobby the UK Government and apply pressure for reform. PLEASE add your signature in support because your signature will count. Electronic petitions of 300 or more signatures are usually assured of an official Government response on the Prime Minister’s website."

Doonesbury strip shows man's head on platter

mens_issues writes "The Doonesbury comic strip (by Gary Trudeau) for May 23 shows the character “Joanie” carrying a platter with a university president’s head on it. The headless man says “What’s this?” to which she replies “A good start.”

The strip's site is found here. Universal Press apologized for running the strip so soon after Nicholas Berg’s beheading in Iraq.

Why it would be OK to have published the cartoon if the beheading had not recently taken place?

Steve"
