Call to Action: Child Support Review in Arkansas

TMN writes "Recevied from eli72117-at-yahoo.com

Hello Everyone,

Arkansas Child Support is not determined by legislation, but by a private committee. The Committee on Child Support meets approximately every four years in order to discuss child support amounts. Historically the amount is raised every time without a wide spectrum of viewpoints. The determination based on neither scientific statistics nor common-sense. I encourage everyone to be on time. There are few opportunities like this to make a real difference."

"There was another detrimental meeting that occurred earlier in the year and nobody with our similar viewpoint attended. Upon contacting many of us whom I had e-mailed, each person stated that he or she believed that plenty of other people would attend. They all assumed that the next person would be there. I ask that you make a strong effort to attend. There are going to possibly be multiple representatives of "women's rights" organizations, including N.O.W., attending this meeting. Although women's rights are very different from children's or mother's rights, the conference center will have many representatives of women's rights organizations present. There is a strong probability that the term "DEADBEAT DADS" will be throughout the room. The ideology of "DEADBEAT DADS" should not be used in determining child support. If you do not attend or encourage others to attend, then do not complain about the inevitable outcome. I also highly encourage representatives of out-of-state organizations also attend this meeting. This will set the stage for common-sense rules to be implemented in every state. There are several considerations that the committee is ignoring:

Interstate child support

Surplus child support amounts received by the CP

OCSE getting the amounts incorrect

Being double taxed on the child support

Does the Custodial Parent use the money appropriately?

Summer daycare and extra-curricular activities for the child

These issues should be considered in court. What most view as common-sense differs from the opinion of the courts. So, we must erase the ambiguity and do what makes America a democratic and safe nation.

Pass this e-mail on to everyone as you see fit.

Best Regards,
Eli

Japan's female workers: "wasted asset"

Kyo writes "Time Magazine has a story on female workers as a "wasted asset" in Japan.

The usual fallacious logic finds its way into print yet again:

Activist Hiroko Hara says, "We have to figure out whether to keep fighting for our dream of equality or just give up on having it all."

Once again the "stark career-or-kids choice" is given as an injustice o women, conveniently forgetting that those overworked "salarymen" have no choice at all -- for them, it's work until you collapse."

"Animal" Comment Triggers Equality Debate in Sweden

Anonymous User writes "This article from Women'sEnews is innocently entitled "Animal Comment Triggers Equality Debate in Sweden," but it does not relate the viciousness of the statements made about men by Ireen von Wachenfeldt, a government official who is one of Sweden's best-known feminists. From the article:
"The Swedish TV reporter, Evin Rubar, asked von Wachenfeldt about the statement from the SCUM Manifesto: "To call a man an animal is to flatter him; he's a machine, a walking dildo."
"Is that your standpoint?" Rubar asked.
"Yes, it's my standpoint," the director said.
"That man is an animal?" the reporter said.
"Man is an animal," von Wachenfeldt said. "Don't you think so?""

Fems Debate DV Shelter Hiring a Male Director

Roy writes "If you thought feminists were in favor of Equal Employment Opportunity, apparently that doesn't extend to hiring a man to oversee a battered women's shelter. The battle over the next director of (Boston's) Transition House has got activists in the shelter system questioning whether embracing male leadership is the next logical step in the progress of the shelter movement or a violation of its mission to protect and treat women and children affected by domestic violence. Some feminists protest - "We human rights activists have always had the vision of abolishing male violence--not making a living off of it. It's such a regrettable irony that some men (and women) previously opposed to feminism are now doing just that by exploiting the initiatives of feminists and making a profit off of male violence against women."

Canada Sticks it to NCPs - Again

Anonymous User writes "
This is an article about how Canadian parents (mostly dads) will now be forced to pay increased back support payments even though they have abided by the courts decisions over the last 15 years. This is disgusting. There should be income support limits. Why should you pay a woman 50,000 a month just because you are a millionaire? The payment is for the clothing, shelter and education of a child. This can be easily achieved for no more than $2000 a month maximum (assuming that she is also responsible for the other half)

This is getting out of hand. No wonder so many honest guys these days simply just leave the country."

Executive Director of SAFE-NH accepts Nomination

VIP SAFE NH writes "

Executive Director of SAFE-NH accepts nomination to the Board of Director's of NH TREE

Lee Newman, Executive Director of SAFE-NH and his wife were recently invited to attend the quarterly Board of Director's meeting and dinner of New Hampshire Transgender Resources for Education and Empowerment.
NH TREE is a non-profit Transgendered Rights organization which among other initiatives holds a Spring Summit (conference)on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in collaboration with the UNH Alliance for GLBTQ students.
Mr. Newman had met with Sarah Thompson the Executive Director of NH TREE several months ago to discuss future possible collaborations between the two organizations due to the fact that SAFE-NH provides services and support to Transgendered clients who have experienced intimate partner violence/domestic violence. Many Transgendered individuals "identify" as gay and lesbian as well as heterosexual so the fact that SAFE-NH counts ALL victims and survivors among their clients is conducive to some collaborative efforts between these organizations.

During the quarterly meeting ,Mr. Newman was asked to join as a Director, after nomination and voting was completed, Mr. Newman accepted a seat on the Board.

The Board then made decisions regarding upcoming initiatives and discussions listed on the agenda. Mr. Newman is looking forward to a positive and productive term with NH TREE."

Billions for battered women, not a penny for battered men

Ray writes " VAWA Reauthorization: Billions for battered women, not a penny for battered men!

Mark Rosenthal writes: "Even after receiving $5.1 billion under the past two VAWA bills, battered women's advocates still argue that there's too little money, and therefore the government should allocate no funding whatsoever for organizations whose primary purpose is to help the 835,000 men the U.S. Dept. of Justice estimates are assaulted by their partner annually.7 Yet somehow there's enough money in the current $4.2 billion VAWA reauthorization bill to make special provisions for an estimated 32,600 Native Americans,8 but of course, only if those Native Americans are female. No males need apply."
