NCFM, NY and GLBT Community Working Together

Peter Allemano writes "NCFM's (National Coalition of Free Men) Greater New York Chapter experimented several times during the Spring by participating in 'Orientation' night at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center here in New York, where we manned a table, greeted visitors and gave away literature. The overwhelmingly positive reception suggested that taking the next step and scheduling
presentations at The Center might be worthwhile."

(Thomas writing now) Gay/bisexual men are, in general, well-educated and organized. In addition, because they have fewer children on average than heterosexuals, they have time for political activities and a relatively large amount of disposable income. (Several years ago, I read that, because of this, numerous companies had begun advertising campaigns designed to appeal to this demographic.) To the extent that the Men's Rights Movement works with gay/bisexual men, I believe we all stand to gain.

6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

The National Coalition of Free Men (“NCFM”) is a nonprofit educational
and civil rights organization that examines the ways sex discrimination affects men and boys. NCFM also helps males to identify their inherent strengths and goodness and to build upon these qualities. All are welcome to join us on November 17 and December 15 at The Center for a presentation and discussion of issues of particular concern to gay/bisexual men /from the perspective of gender/, including:

  • masculophobia, the seldom-acknowledged, insidious companion to homophobia
  • health, both physical and mental, especially in the realm of men’s widely underdiagnosed problems with depression and mental health issues
  • intimate partner violence and the scarcity of resources for male victims
  • reproductive rights (or, more accurately, the lack thereof) and the anti-male “presumption of perversion”
  • widespread male-bashing humor in the media and its deleterious impact upon gay/bisexual males’ self-esteem and relationships
  • the disparity in intensity of disapproval for same-gender sex for males compared to females
  • the inadequacy of the dominant paradigm of gender relations and a proposal for a new one that honors men and women alike, regardless
    of sexual orientation
