I love the way they pitch this. The entire article is a victimization cry. If we have to have women-only carts, why not men-only ones? At least make it fair.

Then they better keep women trying to use their bodies or sexual innuendo to manipulate me for their own gratification off my damned subways. Some of the ugly ones have really scarred me, and I'm constantly distracted by their attempts to get attention and manipulate me - it's very stressful.
What a bunch of ridiculous shit. Your rights end where the princesses feelings begin. Given recent developments, and at least until we're treated as human beings in this society, I'm all for a gender segregation movement. Let them prey off other women for a change.
If they actually do this, I suggest that we piss on a few corners of our own, and politely but firmly ask women to leave the cars we're on, directing them to their own cars. After all, since we're so equal, if we're not welcome in their "public" spaces, then they're not welcome in ours.
It's constitutional challenge time, guys. The Canadian charter of "rights and freedoms" allows sex discrimination in favour of women, so we have no such option here. Men are legally defined as less than equal in Canada, but at least your laws offer some joking pretense of equality.

Women want to have the license to dress provocatively, flaunt their sexuality, be "like men," aggressively express their liberated identities.
But they also want to have guaranteed protection from the consequences of their behaviors and beliefs.
Women want the freedom of "Girls Gone Wild" without the tragedy of "girls disappeared."
Fine to have your boobs flashed on the 'Net porn channel, but bad to show up on the front page of a Caribbean newspaper as "missing," right?
Women are children. Not because men want them that way.
Women insist upon their infantilism.
Ask any feminist.

..but there's a difference: in Mexico City, there are simply separate carts for men and women to be used during rush hour. Tokyo remains the only city in the world with discrimination in this regard.

The women-only train cars actually started in Osaka, not in Tokyo.
Here's a picture of the "Women Only" sign; it's bilingual with English!
http://kissui.net/blog/2005/05/12/riding-the-women -only-train-again/
My train line has them only during the morning rush hour, so if you're commuting off-peak, there are no problems. Also, there's no legal penalty for accidentally stepping into a women-only car. You're gently informed of your mistake and sent to another car.
Fortunately in this case, there are plenty og Japanese women who don't like this system and openly suggest having a men-only car, or offering male riders a 10% discount (since 10% of the train cars are off-limits to them).
I suspect at some point trouble will arise -- a man will miss his train because the only space left is in the women's car, and he'll be docked pay (this can happen even if you're five minutes late to an office job!) or otherwise put into trouble. Maybe he'll sue the train companies for denying him service. Should be interesting -- unlike in the west, Japan has people arguing both sides!

Arguing is not enough! There should be organized protests and large groups of men entering these cars. I would definitely do this and refuse to leave it.
I don't understand why Japanese men are doing nothing about it.
Are you native Japanese or do you only work there?

Why don't we just go ahead and get an all-female PLANET?
Then all the women in the world can move to it and we won't have to deal with them anymore and vice-versa.
All us "lousy men" will just stay here and all the "virtuous, superior women" will just stay there, and we'll all be happy.
I know I would be.
...I'm getting a head ache, I'm gonna go lie down...
Thundercloud.
"Hoka hey!"
