Use GoodSearch.com to support DAHMW
posted by Matt on 10:20 AM June 10th, 2006
Domestic Violence mens_issues writes "Jan Brown at DAHMW sent me this regarding GoodSearch - a search engine powered by Yahoo! which donates money to the charity of your choice each time you use it. While it's only 1 cent for each use, this could add up to hundreds of dollars a year for the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women if enough MRAs use it. Remember that they are also trying to get a shelter for men up and running, so every bit helps.

Remember to use this modestly, only when you're actually looking up something. Fraudulent searches -- like just typing the word "a" into a search engine 4,000 times will get it suspended.

How do you know that the money is going to the right place. I can't find an address for the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women. When I entered it into the Good Search site it came back as Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women - DAHMW (Harmaony, ME), is that right?

Yes, the DAHMW in Harmony, ME is the correct one. And their focus is helping abused men, and while they do refer women to other services when they call, they are trying to get a shelter for men only set up. Also, most of their calls have been from abused men.

DAHMW is definitely on our side and is doing excellent work on a shoestring budget. They're even suing their state's coalition against domestic violence for denying funding just because they help men. DAHMW has even published research on male victims and on female violence, and helps men nationwide. They have worked very closely with and have helped NCFM-LA in a number of ways, and they're a very worthwhile group to support.
