I Faxed this to Specter, Hatch, Sensenbrenner (and all their field offices) this morning as well as Feinstein, Boxer, and Biden.
The VAWA conference committee must make sure that new programs with a primary focus on male victims of domestic violence must be eligible to receive funding without having to partner with the established male-hostile domestic violence providers.
As the bills now stand, existing domestic violence programs are granted a monopoly, and any new programs must partner with an existing program. Unfortunately the majority of existing programs make male victims and their children sit at the back of the bus, if they even allow them on the bus at all. Most established domestic violence service providers find males so toxic that if a woman has a son over 12 years of age, they'll sooner send the woman back to her abuser than permit the son to accompany his mother into the shelter.
Inasmuch as October is domestic violence awareness month it is very important to educate the public to the gross lack of service for male victims of domestic violence. Inasmuch as October is domestic violence awareness month it is critical that the public be educated to the overwhelming discrimination against males that has existed since the inception of the Violence Against Women Act. Please join me in this effort, and by all means let’s correct this un-American law.
Sincerely, Ray

On Saturday President Bush made a twenty-minute speech commemorating October as "Domestic Violence Awareness Month," parroting all the usual anti-male bile in VAWA and repeating numerous feminist DV lies and myths.
The Congress was so impressed by the growing clout of the men's movement that both the House and the Senate unanimously passed VAWA 2005.
The VAWA bills passed on to conference committee contain some watered down language that basically states that "nothing in the bill should be construed as preventing services for men."
Of course, nothing in the bill's language mandates anything at all for male DV victims.
And the obvious bamboozle from the get-go was the funding mechanism, which leaves the DOJ's Office for Violence Against Women in charge of grant approval.
In addition to the hurdle that proposed "new" programs must partner with established(read- feminist)services, "new" programs are also required to demonstrate expertise and experience and a credible track record for their proposed "new" approach to addressing DV.
In other words, a classic slam-dunk Catch-22!
Also, most state's have approved DV "protocols" which lay out the required guidelines for DV services, whether shelters or counseling or victim advocacy.
As you would suspect, these guidelines reject anything outside the rad-fem Duluth Model creed.
Perhaps more worrisome than the renewal of the "basic" VAWA is the last-minute inclusion of a "DNA Fingerprint" amendment that will allow police to forceably collect a DNA sample from any detained or arrested person.
It's approaching the time to conclude that nothing tangible has been gained in terms of legally reforming VAWA.
Perhaps much has been gained as a learning experience for MRAs who now may have a clearer understanding of the magnitude of the challenges ahead.

Are you sure??? The one you posted was from 2003/2004 not this year. It was interesting reading about Casey Gwinn, who has become virtually non-existent in San Diego political circles in 2005. Bush has distanced himself from him with great effort. The Family Justice Center model is still there, but it is more commonly referred to locally as The Family Injustice Center for its support of gender feminist politics and Stalinist family policies.
To my knowledge Bush has not made an announcement this year proclaiming domestic violence awareness month. Even if he has, I will continue on. I will not be deterred.
The truck is out on the street today with a big new sign. It's a graphic of a tombstone with the words,
D.V. SHELTER
ACCEPTING
ABUSED MEN
I'm hoping to get ten more new truck signs out this month to help increase d.v. awareness from the male perspective.
Sure wish I had a way to post the pictures on the internet. The truck has been out on the street since before dawn is "out there" as I write these words. I'll pull it in at nightfall.
Hang in there,
Ray

This is from your post at SYG
Commander in Cheif Praises Domestic Violence Awareness
For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
October 8, 2003
"President Bush Proclaims October Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Remarks by the President on Domestic Violence Prevention"
I think Bushy will at least wait until VAWA is finalized and out of the Conference Committee before he signs it and jumps on the band wagon in 2005. In October of 2003 the legislation itself wasn't even at issue, since it was approved for 5 years in 2000.
It will be interesting to see what the final version of VAWA will look like this year. I'm not holding my breath, but I'll still be protesting and proably Faxing elected Rep's. even after the dust settles. From my perspective this is all as much a matter of educating the uninformed/misinformed as it is anything.
Sincerely, Ray

Yep Ray, the transcript and video link I posted earlier was indeed from 2003.
But The Prez's tune has not changed.
Here's the link for his proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, 2005 --

National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, 2005
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America
For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
September 30, 2005
"Domestic violence is a great evil and an offense against human dignity that shatters lives and robs children of their innocence. Where it occurs, homes are transformed into places of danger and despair. During National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we renew our commitment to preventing domestic violence.
We are making progress in the fight against violence in the home. Over the past decade, the domestic violence rate has declined by an estimated 59 percent. But much work remains to be done. My Administration remains committed to preventing domestic abuse by supporting victims and punishing offenders. We have secured historic levels of funding for the Violence Against Women programs at the Department of Justice, presided over an increase in Federal prosecutions for crimes of violence against women, and implemented a program to help fund transitional housing for victims fleeing domestic abuse.
To increase access to comprehensive support and services for victims of domestic violence, in 2003 I announced the creation of the Family Justice Center Initiative. These centers bring together police officers, attorneys, counselors, doctors, victims' advocates, chaplains, and others so that domestic violence victims can more easily find the help and support they need. The Department of Justice has awarded over $20 million to support the creation of 15 Family Justice Centers across the country, and several of these centers have already opened their doors and are making a difference in victims' lives.
Faith based and community organizations are also making vital contributions in the effort to combat domestic violence. These organizations are fostering an environment where victims can step out of the shadows and get the help and care they need. Through initiatives like the Faith Based and Community Organization Rural Pilot Program and the Safe and Bright Futures for Children Initiative, the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services are providing funding to support these organizations in their life changing work.
I appreciate all those who work to end domestic violence and to protect vulnerable members of our society. By working together, we continue to build a society that respects the life and dignity of every person.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 2005 as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I urge all Americans to reach out to help victims of domestic violence and help to make ending domestic violence a national priority.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this thirtieth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirtieth."
GEORGE W. BUSH

Hey I thought October was breast cancer month.
So how can Georgie Porgy declare it domestic violence month too?
Oh, last month, September was Prostate Cancer month but not many people seemed aware of that fact.

The so-called logic behind the Social-Marxist legislation called VAWA is to make American homes safe and violence free places to live. So well and good BUT the way the behemoth Federal government is accomplishing this is by making the woman of the household dictator with omnipotent powers to instantly change the life of the powerless man of the house into a living bureaucratic police state hell at the slightest infraction that she interprets as a threat or a near threat by merely dialing 911 and starting the ball rolling with draconian restraining orders, armed cops at the door and all that crap.
This is reminiscent of the 1960's Twilight Zone episode where the opening scene was of a group of adults sitting around a young boy who was about 8 years old and watching cartoons on TV. The problem with this is that they had been watching cartoons all day long but all the adults were commenting on how nice the young boy was to let them watch cartoons for hours on end and to eat endless amounts of junk food like ice cream and cake while they watched. All the adults had cheesy worried smiles on their faces. The central theme of the story was that the kid had somehow gotten enormous supernatural powers to do very bad things to the adults like turn them into slug worms in an instant if he felt they weren't being nice or had negative feelings about him. All the adults were in essense his prisoners and subject to his puerile whims.
Under VAWA men who still are in the home are living this surreal nightmare that seems to have been prophesied so many years ago by Rod Sterling.
Great social progress we have made huh?

Luek:
Excellent analogy.
With so many males subjigated to a twilight zone type "reign of terror" (aka, gender feminist ideology run amok), will it come as a surprise to lawmakers (or anyone), when America spins down and crashes, because so many people abandon all hope.
How much longer can America's males endure the living hell they are forced to bear under gender feminism?

That is up to the males actually as to how long they want to endure this crap. We as a social class can either stop being in denial about the situation and turn off the sports channel and get off the couch and start getting active about doing something for mens rights or just sit back and accept it as normal and be happy and sappy in our second class status like the self-hater Joe Biden envisions for us.

Activism now is good. However, a delay is also beneficial. It allows pressure to build and also allows for some of the stealth feminists (e.g. Laura Bush -- OK with abortion, seems to think we need a woman justice regardless of qualifications) to surface. Perseverence is what will win in the end.

It may not seem like much to many, but consider that I live in California and Senator Barbara Boxer has not even bothered to reply to the same letter from one of her own constituents, and Senator Feinstein replied but doesn't recognize male d.v. victims. It at least does say something, just in the fact that it recognizes I'm a human being too, and it doesn't deny that men are victims of d.v. Hopefully, the final version of VAWA will also reflect that.
