MSN Strikes Again: Men Are Drooling Semi-literates
posted by Matt on 02:56 PM August 8th, 2005
The Media apetr writes "This article looked promising but started off on the wrong foot. I was offended to say the least.

Opening lines:
"Get out the spittoon. Men produce twice as much saliva as women. Women, for their part, learn to speak earlier, know more words, recall them better, pause less and glide through tongue twisters."

How about this intro: "Women can only produce half as much saliva as Men, while men commmand better math and spatial abilities, excel in physics and calculus and tend not to run off at the mouth."

Here is the entire article."

I had the same reaction when I saw this. MSN is such a joke. On a slightly different subject, I noticed that despite MSN devoting an inordinate amount of space to topics typically of interest to women like celebrity gossip and other Hollywood entertainment stuff, they didn't have anything about Jennifer Lopez' recent comments about her considering quitting her music and movie career to become a full-time mother. She believes you can't be a successful mother and wife and have a job - so she's prepared to give up work to devote herself to her family.

She explains: "Either you are going to be a bad mom and be a really good career woman and wife, or a good mom and career woman and bad wife, or a good mom and a good wife and your career is going to suck."

Of course, this sentiment doesn't fit into the feminist and MSN party line so there was nothing about it on the MSN page at all although there were all the normal Hollywood stories that women seem to be so interested in. At least I didn't see anything about it on MSN. Just an observation.

Maybe this is why violence against women is such a big issue whereas injustices against men are forgotton?

That part about the men being better at math and spatial abilities is horseshit.

I thought I;d check this site out for some quality info about men, and it's just a bash the woman fest.

I like the lines about...

Females, it turns out, appear to have backup genes that protect their brains from big trouble. To level the genetic playing field between men and women, nature normally shuts off one of the two X chromosomes in every cell in females. But about 19 percent of genes escape inactivation; cells get a double dose of some X genes. Having fall-back genes may explain why females are far less subject than males to mental disorders from autism to schizophrenia...

...or from genius to prodigy.

It never occurred to them to mention that.

i just thought it made me want to fight men and screw women. ummm not at the same time mind you.

is it not just safe to say that women and men balance each other out mentally when they're not stabbing each other in the back?

it was really clear very quickly that the artical was written by a women.

I understand why women spit less than men.

This is pefectly logical. They have to talk approximately 4000% more in a day to feel content than do men, so the flapping of their lips creates a natural evaporation of saliva.

Duh?

The whole subject of female lubrication really needs to be studied more closely.

It seems to be a major drain on our national domestic economy.

Really.

First, autism is not a mental disorder. Second, women are more likely to have mental disorders in general (about 80% of the patients in mental institutes are women), including depression, anxiety, ptsd, and probably some more I don't recall off hand. And despite what the article says, schizophrenia affects men and women equally.

The "80% of mental patients are women" stat doesn't mean women are more likely to be mentally ill. It means mentally ill women are more likely to be diagnosed and treated as such while mentally ill men are more likely to go undiagnosed and wind up homeless, incarcerated or dead. The stigma about getting mental health treatment is much worse for men than women, which is one of many reasons they get less treatment, along with other reasons such as less outreach, less public compassion, less available services, less social encouragement, and longer work hours making it harder to do so.

Hey, I don't have the numbers in order to do this, but someone who does ought to do the following: Add up the numbers of all men incarcerated in prisons plus all men who are not incarcerated but classified as mentally ill, then add up the number of women who are in prison plus all the women who are not but are classified as mentally ill, and compare the two.

I'll bet you'll find that the numbers are surprisingly similar, and even more similar when you take into account the higher propsensity of women to seek mental health services.

What does this tell us? It tells us how much more accommodating society is of women's mental/emotional foibles compared to men's.

Here here! I have not felt more alienated in life as a man as I do these days. Men are most often discouraged to get help for these issues. Hell, I have been labeled as a neo-nazi by my own circle of "friends" for nothing more than having a Mens Activism bumper sticker on my car. And these are the people who are supposed to be there for me and promote free thought. But alas, my views do not fit within the narrow viewpoint that they have so my values are determined to be "wrong" and out of place in this females society. If I can not count on my friends and family for support of my values that promote nothing more than equality, then who can I count on to support me finding physical, mental or any other kind of help when I need it. LoL, more than likely I will just be told to suck it up and get back to work. Someone’s gotta pay the bills....

I've had the same experience. My friends and family don't get it either. I keep some mainly male friends despite their reactionary anti-male attitudes. I get pissed at my mother for her lack of appreciation for men, particularly me. So, you're not alone. Don't go crazy. Quite correct...but the spin women have put on this for the last several decades (and I suppose with some justification prior to the '70's) is that "women are more likely than men TO BE CONFINED for their disorders since [pick one or more of the following]":

1)in our patriarcal society, men just want to suppress womens' freedom, so they lock them up.

2)women are more likely to REVEAL that they have disorders, i.e. to seek help, than men [this argument may have seemed to have been valid in the past, but in light of recent information it just doesn't ring true anymore, as people have been encouraged to come forward for quite some time now. Also, more and more of these mental disorders are being found to have biological/chemical causes, and there are certainly physiological differences between gender which may play a part here. Also, see researcher Maggie Scarf's book Unfinished Business, in which she examines the issue at length and determines that women do indeed have a higher incidence of depression].
Well I don't have time to make a big long list here, but I'm sure you guys can come up with some doozies. One thing I should add, however, is that a university psychology professor once said to me that "depression is the most common mental disorder among the general populace, while schizophrenia is the most common disorder among patients in mental institutions". I'm not sure, but I would think that this has something to do with the proportion of women to men in institutions. Any ideas?

Its funny how they twist it around to make themselves look good. Who wants a dry mouth like women? That causes bad breath, not to mention who wants to kiss something that feels like a reptile as opposed to the naturally moist male mouth??

Also, what the hell does saliva have to do with the fact that girls speak at an earlier age? That was a blatant and lame attempt to feel superior.
