Bias in the press?

The Media Tirryb writes "I followed a link to the UK newspaper the Guardian, and noticed that the story was within a folder called 'gender'. On editing the link I found an index page listing numerous recent gender-based stories. Quite interesting, but if you skip down the list it seems very one-sided - I'd say 10 headline 'poor women' stories for every small 'gee men may have it a bit rough too' story. Or maybe it's just me..."

Congress repeals Constitution, Bill of Rights

By Thomas Fullery

July 2, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - (AP) Congress passed legislation Friday repealing the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. In a move cosponsored by Senators Barbara Boxer (D - CA) and Joe Biden (D - DE) Congress moved to replace these documents with an arbitrary and authoritarian state-controlled government. General and Congressional elections would also be discontinued.

Senator Harry Reid (D - NV) concurred with the move. In a brief statement to reporters Reid said that "Due to public apathy, we in Congress decided it was best for the American people to be controlled by a centralized government, with no input from U. S. citizens in the form of elections or participatory government."

In related news, the United States flag was also replaced with a newer, more radical design, with input from NOW president Kim Gandy. The new flag will replace the familiar field of 50 stars on a blue background with the symbol for NOW on a purple background. The red stars and white stripes will be replaced with purple stars and white stripes to match the purple field. Gandy stated that "The old flag design was patriarchal in nature, as it ignored the contributions of women, while at the same time the red stripes glorified blood and violence - a very male attribute."

A Gallup poll revealed that 67% of Americans were unaware of these changes, 10% were opposed to them, 5% were in favor, and the remaining 18% were more concerned with the recent engagement of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Why hold the democrats responsible for this republican outcome?

The difference between liberals and conservatives is the degree to which they believe the state should provide for its most deprived persons.

Is hypocritical for right-wing, religious Republicans to claim the moral high-ground. This is because religion, in its best sense, can deepen humanity's capacity for compassion towards the most deprived citizens of society. But, the Republican impulse is to let the market decide what to do with the most deprived persons.

Art, literature and religion have the capacity to deepen humanity's innate capacity for compassion; philosophy and politics cannot do this. Conservatives understand this, on some level; this is why they want state controlled art and literature, and why they oppose the separation of church and state. They want the benefits of society all to themselves. Since they cannot admit this, they must maintain an intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt facade of moral superiority, while they actively seek to supress anything that could deepen compassion towards the most deprived persons of society.
