Probably a bunch of high school drop-out Gothic kids who don't have jobs, did this. A group as I just desribed came back to our high school after they were expelled, and vandalized the school and wrote obscene and stupid things like this all over the building. Losers.

Sorry, this reminds me of friends in virginia, their communal Goth/musician [too many people crammed in there, but anyway] house got vandalized, someone had spray-painted
"fuck you nazi bitches!!!!!!" and other endearing phrases on the walls.
The one fellow came home and remarked "they could at least have put a comma after 'you.'"

I tend to agree. I don't think this was a random act by kids. I suspect the site was targeted for disseminating the truth which as we all know is a threat to the liberal elite and the feminist hate mongers.

I've seen it a LOT of times... it's analogous to tagging and is a common hacker passtime, it's a way of "establishing their hacking credentials".
I see nothing to indicate that it was other than a poor security setup on MND's part (hopefully remidied).

Don't getcher gauchies in a bunch, folks. I've seen these attacks before.
This Brazilian bunch, or ones like them, have been around for a few years. One of my on-line Sun Solaris boxes got hit by them about 2.5 years ago. Somehow they managed to get a root-kit onto the box; probably by a trojan which I *think* was in a Solaris package I'd downloaded.
Anyway, we took the box down, re-installed the OS, and hardened it -- added TripWire, among other things. (We'd been a bit optimistic with a couple ports left open.) We've been fine since.
Hacking into a Unix box is very much a non-trivial exercise, so I'm positive this isn't a feminist anti-male attack. Not that they probably wouldn't just love to commit such vandalism, but because of how difficult it is. Who can imagine a feminit making that kind of effort? And just imagine the nasty, oppressive, Patriarchal, iccky male 'linear thinking' and rational logic involved.
For some reason computers just don't respond to "wymyn's ways of knowing" nor are they telepathic or sensitive to one's 'feelings.' Computers oppress wymyn!!!!
Unless feminists can snivel and whine and get someone to do it for them, it'll never happen.

Actually, this is the first time I've been able to get into MND since all the changes around Thanksgiving, even if a hacked screen is all I get. Forget the right wing leaing of MND, that site just isn't user friendly anymore wtih all those bugs crawling around and other user unfriendly distractions.
I realize I only have dial up, but dial up works for every other site I go to, except MND. It's a shame that MND has so much good men's rights stories, but just seems to be getting harder and harder for men (who really need access) to get to their site.
Right now I'm spending a lot more time on HisSide, Ifeminist, and Mensactivism.

I check out MND only for the very few editorial commentators who are not rabidly right-wing Republicans... as is Mr. LaSalle.
I hate the "bugs" (pop-ups everywhere) on the site, but most of all the consistent spyware company's ad that displays every time you hit MND.
It says something like "Your computer may be infested with spyware... CLICK HERE.."
And, if you're foolish enough to do so, it plants malware and tracking files on your PC.
I wrote MND about this, but they did not reply.
MND is a masquerade site... not really about men's rights. It's a neo-fascist whore-site that is primarily about milking MRA's for profits.
But ya'll already knew that!

I have noticed that many sites for men such as DivorcedFather.com have gone the way of the Dodo Bird. Not enough money to continue to operate. Mensnewsdaily.com has a profit motive oh horrors! Big deal Girley Men, get a life. Either donate or live with it. To my knowledge they are not a 5013C Nonprofit Corp. I have no problem with that. Mens groups spend more time back biting and criticizing one another and in circle jerks than fighting the assholes who are attacking us. Nothing will change without us uniting and demanding an end to publicly funded Misandry. In my estimation the problem is getting worse rather than better.
The majority of Men are not part of the elitists groups who prey or sponge off the rest of us. We have Welfare in reverse, we steal from the poor and give to the wealthy. Trickle down economics is only trickling down the feces to those at the bottom. The children of the rich are escaping duty during time of war. And the costs are being passed off to the rest of us. I have a step Son who is USMC Lance Corporal in Fallujah. So spare me the BS about the just cause we are fighting for. Let's draft the Sons, Nephews and Grandsons of the Cabinet and the Congress.

Oh, really? I was just speaking the truth. There's too many people here who rant and swear, but I'm not one of them.
The whining simply gets annoying. It was defaced, so what. Happens all the time. Get over it.
That group, as far as I know, is just a bunch of lame kids (skilled people don't deface websites, anyway) and it's embarrassing to get 0wned by them. The security of the site must have been extremely bad.

It's now almost 11:30 EST, more than 24 hours since the time someone mentioned noticing that it was down, and the same screen is still up. Mike's primary purpose for the site is to make money - evident from all the advertising he carries which almost makes the site unusable - so having it down is hitting him in the pocket big time. The fact that he still doesn't have the site back up would seem to indicate that this is more than an ordinary defacement hack, unless these guys managed to trash his entire hosting setup. I'm wondering if they got into his DNS and simply redirected all traffic intended for the site.

My suspicion turned out to incorrect. If you have the URL of another page for that site, it loads normally. I did a trace on the domain and it has not been grabbed - it is still registered to Mike. What amazes me is that the notice was posted at 7:45pm on the 16th, and Mike has still not addressed it and seems to have no backup admin. His absence is a topic of discussion by itself.
The page is simple HTML (unlike the complex delivery schemes Mike is using) so it seems to be a pretty simple defacement hack. A few months ago a group of hackers had a weekend contest to see if they could deface 6,000 sites between Friday Night and Monday morning. If I remember right, they met their goal.

That's probably where a lot of the problems with my computer have come from then.
Although I don't agree with everything you've said, I do agree that MND is pitifully lacking, when you compare it to any other news service site. I'm not sure how those other sites make their money, but they certainly don't have all the crappy advertisements that are on MND. They make that site more and more user unfriendly every day. I read someone else's post saying they were giving up on the MND site, and to tell you the truth, I'm probably going to be doing that to.
It's just too difficult to read the stories with all those ridiculous bugs and other distractions, and the stories look really crappy when you try to print them out, or use them in some professional way.
I really wish there were an alternative. It's gotten unbearable. I agree, it is a kind of betrayal of the men's movement. I guess the owner just needs the money that much. I could probably work on it and ensure that I at least can get in and am protected (for now), but who needs all that hassel. It's really a shame that some desperate men, who could really benefit from that site, are not going to be able to use it due to all the trouble created by all the superfulous junk that site spawns.

Here's an update on the MND issue:
MND is hosted by a company in Chicago, which is charged with maintaining the security of the site, and which they failed at.
Mike LaSalle has been on vacation, for Christmas, with his family, and has no access to the servers beyond remote administration of the site.
Insofar as the whoring out goes, it says a lot for the men's movement and so called activists when they can't shell out a ten dollar paypal donation, five of which per month would more than pay for the time and costs of hosting it.
This, to generate revenue to continue to operate, those who host such services have to cover their costs somehow. Thus, the ads. It'd be curious to see full disclosure from the big whiners as to just how much they personally donated to keep the site ad free back in the day when Mike was begging for help.
People are also somehow amazed and shocked that Mike LaSalle hasn't let the site drop from being anti-feminist to being anti-woman, when is target is to do more than preach to the choir of a few disaffected misogynists like many mental masturbation sites that operate, and are marginal in their audience.
A further point is the left wingers who also whine, when in their closet is the operational HQ for Feminazi central. Get rid of your feminists and their agenda, and you may find MRA's to be a little more willing to look at you; but so long as you are in bed with our natural enemies, and have given them a voice in the driving of your agenda, you shouldn't be shocked when you are rejected.
