Scalia advocates for orgies
posted by Matt on 05:53 PM October 1st, 2004
Humor OK, I am posting this under 'Humor' only because you will of course laugh hysterically when you read it. However, this is a real story from the UK"s Guardian and I will presume it is accurate unless they issue a retraction for whatever reason.

How does it fit into Men's Rights activism? I am not sure. I think it does fit in somewhere though however. Just, I am not sure how. =)

I personally find postings like this to lower the credibility of Mensactivism.org. Just two stories ago we have a very serious and interesting post about VIP/SAFE-NH's testimony in Washington, D.C. Other than a select few mailing lists, there are few places people can go to keep up on this kind of activism news. When I created MANN, I envisioned a more serious site where pro-male activism related stories and projects would be the primary content.

Now that I no longer run this site on a day-to-day basis, I realize that my right to criticize the hard work that the other admins put into it is questionable. But I'm wondering what other regulars think. Do posts like this have a place on MANN? Do we focus too much on examples of violent women at the expense of more substantial activism? Is there a particular consistent message or image we want to portray to the public as a representation of the men's movement?

These things have been concerning me more and more lately. I'd like a reality check from the movement if I'm in need of one.

Thanks,

Scott

I agree that this story has nothing to do with men's activism, and I have serious doubts about its credibility.

I also agree that there has been too many stories that document women who have done evil acts. It's worth understanding that both women and men do evil acts, but I don't think that is a key issue for men's activism.

I think that improvement in the way stories are selected would be good for the site and good for the men's movement. Thanks, Scott, for setting up mensactivism.org and your continuing care for it.

I don't agree with that. For example; If women can get rid of their husbands by having them arrested on false accusation, that's an evil act that should be a key issue for men's activism.
Yes, there are men who also do evil acts, but that's what I hear for more than 30 years now, while the evil acts done by women are covered. As long as we men keep blaming ourselfs for acts done by a few evil men and at the same time we don't want to discuss the acts done by evil women, nothing will change.

But that's my opinion.

I don't know, I have mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand too many articles about the misdeeds of women can get a bit tedious, and make us too similar to feminists who point out every evil deed ever done by a man.
On the other hand, the media OVER covers "evil" men while COVERING UP "evil" women.
So while I might say we could tone it down a bit, I do believe that these stories have their place in the men's movement.

Maybe just not such a steady diet of them.
I don't know.

The validity of this article is questionable... Please do not post spam onto this website. Mr. Scalia may be one of the only members on the supreme court who will stand up against the feminist controlled courts in this country.

My goodness... well, can't always pick a winner. I meant the post to be humorous more than anything else and I wouldn't call the story spam or incredible as such - it's not like the National Enquirer was the publisher or anything.

Still I understand where you all are coming from. While I reserve the right to post stories that I think will be good to post on this site (well, as long as I am a MANN admin) I also am not unreasonable nor immune to the impact of feedback or criticism. In futurte I will strive to moderate my own admittedly perverse sense of humor when or if I am tempted to post something as a Humor piece again.
